Housing assignments are in!

mine didn’t change either :frowning:
does anyone know how/when we can request room transfers?

E-mails were sent out, so I don’t think they were released accidentally this time xD

alright, so i got a double with suite configuration in cuarto.

what can ANYONE tell me about this? i know cuarto is the worst…

anyone has details on this?

i got a bill for rez for $3,987.96 which includes $500 reservation fees. I had already paid the reservation fees? so shouldnt the bill be of $3,487.96?

Noo the $3987 doesn’t include the $500 reservation fee

It does, look at the chart (if u got the same one i did). It shows $3487.96 (for double 120 meal plan $150 aggie cash) for fall quarter and above that is the $500 reservation fees. I’m going to call and ask them tomorrow.

Yeah, the $500 reservation fee was a separate payment I took care of on the 22nd. Yet they seemed to have charged me again for it based on this: http://housing.ucdavis.edu/__pdf/Shared/2010%20ResHall%20Rate%20Schedule.pdf</a>

Let us know what they say in your call don, otherwise I’ll call/email them myself too.

Yeah they did it for me too. ***.

Ohhh oops haha I see what you’re saying. hm…all I find is the Residence Housing Deposit under Recent Payments and Credits on mybill :|

hey! that is for me as well…

seems like it got fixed before i could even make the call :P

Hi!! I’m going to be the Resident Advisor for Pierce K, on the third floor. Go engineers! Feel free to ask me any questions you have–about moving in, campus life, whatever!

simpsonman, a double with suite configuration means that you’ll be living with other people in a “suite”, but you yourself will only live with one other person in your room. A suite is like an apartment, with no kitchen.

Cuarto is certainly not the worst, unless you really care about being super close to classes. I lived in Emerson last year.

A suite in Emerson/Webster means theres a cluster of 2-3 rooms (usually each double config, all same sex) and you have your own bathroom and living room. The closets are the roomiest out of all the dorms I’ve seen.

A suite in Thoreau means you’ll have a double config in one wing, with a triple config room as your neighbor. There’s a living room (its HUGE) separating your wing and an identical other wing–this is how they fit 6-9 people in one suite. Each side has their own separate water closet (just toilet), shower (also in a separate room) and closet.

azurite, you have to wait until the year starts to request a room transfer with your RA. There’s an allotted period of time to request room transfers (after you’ve talked to your RA, and they think its okay). It should be on the calendar you got during orientation.

francesfox:

My daughter is assigned to a 10!!! person suite on the quiet floor in Thoreau. I can’t believe that they gave her the quiet floor when she did not request it! And Cuarto was her and her chosen roomates LAST choice.

Anyways, she is interested in becoming and RA at some point. Do you have any suggestions for her? Can she be an RA as a Sophmore? What is the compensation?

Thanks.

allgood, a lot of people end up getting a room configuration, program, or residence hall they didn’t ask for/put as their last choice. The problem is there’s really just too many incoming freshman to be able to accommodate everyone.

However, it may turn out to be just as good as their first choice: I was in a six person suite in Emerson last year and ALL of the other girls put Cuarto as their last pick. It turned out, we all got along really well and loved being in a suite together. So much so, that three of the six are going to live together next year in an apartment. Also, a friend of mine didn’t want a single in a suite, but he ended up loving where he lived. I also wouldn’t worry too much about having the experience on the “quiet floor” in Thoreau–I knew a suite of girls who lived up there, and they were anything but.

If a resident really has problems adjusting to their environment and it affects other areas of their life, there will be no issue with them transferring to another residence hall where they will feel more comfortable.

oh, and yes! She can become an RA her sophomore year–I’m a second year myself! Be aware that the competition is stiff though: around 200 apply, and about 80 get accepted. The process of applying isn’t complicated; you apply in winter, get recommendations, and then have an interview in spring. The interview is the most critical step in the process, I would say. If you’re an RA, your room and board and meal plan is paid for. You also get a small stipend for training in the fall.

@francesfox: Have you heard anything about the lounge configuration? I have a plaza suite with lounge configuration in Pierce J.

I have that same configuration and I don’t get it either… I’m in Campo in Regan Hall circle.

also it says room 100A, but there is no room 100 on the floorplan for campo.

@francesfox: What exactly is this quiet program in Thoreau? How much of a hassle is it that Cuarto is off campus and how long does it usually take to get to a class by bike? Hahaha srry and finally how is the dining commons in cuarto? I am pretty upset about getting thoreau, but I guess I will just have to make the most of it!
