Hi everyone!
So I just received my housing assignment for the upcoming 2018-19 school year. My housing contract is a traditional single room in Atherton hall. I don’t know too much about this building, and I want to know how it compares to Simmons hall. From what I hear, Simmons is a little nicer. I’m mainly concerned about noise level (because Atherton is nearer to downtown) and space in the room itself. If anyone has information on (size, appearance, noise level, bathrooms, building features, etc.) single dorms in Atherton or Simmons I would appreciate it!
If I had a single, I’d count myself lucky and leave well enough alone. The differences are small, and aren’t those buildings next to each other? @bodangles ?
Thank you, they are pretty similar!
I lived in a single in Atherton for two years. It was a bit small, but for me the benefits of a single made up for that. I’m not sure how the singles in Simmons would differ or not. They are indeed right across Shortlidge from each other – Atherton is a little closer to the HUB, Simmons is a little closer to Redifer Commons.
I wouldn’t expect the outdoor noise level to differ much except on the occasional day when some outdoor concert is happening at the HUB lawn. (Happens sometimes, and is annoying, but every place around the HUB bears the brunt on those days.) Indoors, they’re both honors housing and should have more extensive quiet hours than most halls.
Atherton has a computer lab, several study rooms/lounges, a rec room, laundry, etc. I believe most bathrooms are renovated to be clusters of individual rooms with lockable doors. (Much better than the big multi-person bathrooms from my freshman year…)
