I was just on a tour at UPenn but had to leave before the residential/housing part in order to attend an info session (the tour ran late). What is the housing system like? When I looked at the website before coming to Penn, I thought it was similar to the Harvard/Yale residential college systems (like Harry Potter houses). However, when I talked with a girl on campus, she mentioned living in the highrises(?) as a freshman. Could someone clarify the system for dorms? Thanks!

In my opinion Penn is trying to make housing more “college house” focused like it is at harvard at yale, but its not there yet. for now, the dorms have distinct personalities and pros/cons.

Quad: Best rooms, very pretty, very social, should be at the top of your list if you like to go out/party etc.
Hill: tiny rooms but nice common areas and a social feel like the quad. a pro is that it has a dining hall inside
Kings Court/English House: Definitely has a nerdier vibe than the quad or hill but there are a few social halls. pretty big rooms and a dining hall inside.
High Rises:Apartment style, but mostly upperclassmen so you won’t meet many freshmen
Dubois: african american
Everything else: not social, very quiet
