housing choices

so is it true that the sooner you turn in that $30 deposit and the application, the earlier your room sign-up time for next year will be? or are the sign-up times completely random?

I think it was completely random last year. Everyone told me it wouldn't matter as long as the deposit and application was in on time, but I applied as a freshman then.

its random. i wish you were right!

does anyone know if Sproul will be open for housing next year? or would it still be under renovation?

it'll still be renovated. and it's a random process.

The renovation process is going to be continued until August 2007.

I actually heard it's been delayed...(typical of UCLA construction I guess)

Look at the Engineering I building. The sign says "to be completed early 2006". :)

I heard that you pick the actual room and your roommates in March. Is that true?

I think that we pick when we turn in the application (by January 31st), and they give us our housing offers in March.

Actually, devr is right. Returning residents will be able to choose their exact rooms and roommates sometime at the end of Winter quarter (or early Spring quarter.) The application due in January is for whether or not you plan to return to housing in the fall (and to secure a spot!)

yup, and i think your priority times are assigned in late february..

which places are the most sought after (looking for convenience and good food)

i've been hearing a lot of ppl wanting to live in de neve

if you wanna live in de neve, don't complain about people pounding the floors with their feet, they're actually just walking. And we can't help if it's loud, the floors are just thin.

i also hear that rieber hall, terrace and vista are desired

oh and the majority of ppl from sunset that i've talked to want to stay somewhere in sunset again...

I'd like to stay in sunset and in the exact room I have now. Too bad I dont have guaranteed housing :(. My room is closest to the door, so no stairs to climb, covel is like a second away, so is Bruin cafe and puzzles. Basketball and tennis courts are also a second away.

yea courtside is the best!

but, i don't really like the first floor... it feels dark.

i would take it deneve and sunset are most popular followed b y terrrace and vista. i need to live in one of those four or i'm not living on campus. warning: never live in a suite.
