I may have a bad case of senioritis or just be completely stupid, but I am totally confused by the housing deadlines. On the housing page it states:

Students who pay their University of Michigan enrollment deposit before the May 1st deadline are eligible to apply for a residence hall space beginning in April.

After the beginning of April, a student may apply two weeks after his/her University of Michigan enrollment deposit is recorded. Applications submitted by a May deadline (TBD) are considered in the order they are submitted.

I thought there was a lottery system where if you paid before May 1, you would get into the lottery, and that timing was not an issue? Is there a strategy to this? Any help would be great!

March 21- Applications available (emails sent weekly thereafter as enrollment deposits are received).

May 10 -Deadline to submit application for the first round of housing assignments. All housing applications received by 11:59pm EDT are assigned a random number to objectively determine the order in which housing assignments are made. Having an application in this round does not guarantee that you will receive your preferred room type or campus neighborhood. Appllications after May 10 are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

After a little thought - is it correct that as long as you submit your deposit by mid April (or at least two weeks before May 1) that you will have the same chance as everyone else in housing choices as long as you submit your application before May 1?

yup, just got mine too.
have a question, however - i applied to and was admitted to LSA, but in the housing info it says
School / College: UNDERGRADUATE RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE
does anyone know if this is a mistake or if RC = LSA? i vaguely recall reading someone else's post on something of this nature, but i can't find it.

Residential College is NOT LSA. RC is a quasi LAC living/dorm structure on East Quad. You probably checked in your application that you'd be interested in it. You'd better look into it now and see if it's right for you before you proceed.
