No fpf housing...now what?

I didn't get an email so I called and the lady said they aren't able to accomodate anymore at this time, but that I should call Cal Rentals to look into some more options.

Anyone have any suggestions on which private residences or whether I should just wait and see if people decline their housing offers and a spot becomes available?

Thanks.

I'm in FPF too... I got housing, but if I hadn't, I would have taken a rental. It's only for one semester and then you're guaranteed to be moved in to a dorm.

...well, for one thing, you can bug Cal Housing more. I know in mid August they sent out a bunch of emails to people who already had housing contracts to see if they wanted to switch into better ones.

Otherwise...check craigslist.org, the Westminster House, co-ops. Panoramic Management buildings if you have the money haha. There definitely are a lot of options beyond dorming.

i didn't get housing either
they gave housing to 300 students
my number was 324! :(

i'm looking into the coops and westminster house

300 students?! ROFL, I am ONE LUCKY BASTARD. WOO-HOO!

whats ROFL mean?

Rolling on the floor laughing

Definitely check Craigslist. Ideally, find someone on these boards who wants to room together. That'll open up more options (since you can share a room to cut costs).

put yourself on the universiting housing waitlist as well. i'm not accepting my spot (just got the offer off of the waitlist yesterday) so there's at least one spot that's opened up, and others will open up as well i'm sure as people will continue to find alternate housing and reject their dorm offer. craigslist is also a good resource. calrentals is sort of umm.. useless. :D

I wonder if they are going to at least have the decency to e-mail us and tell us there's no more space left.

They did for some people.

Part of the FPF experience is also living in the dorms. Took me <2 minutes to walk from Unit 2 (I timed it). I lived in the closest building to FPF classes possible :)

How do you know what number you are for housing? I can't believe they only gave housing to 300 kids... I feel so lucky :)

When I called, she said I was #246 from the boys and they had filled up earlier than that number. At least that's what I understood it as.

I'm sorry they didn't give you housing! That sucks. :( I hope spaces clear up for you soon!

Well, I am an FPF student and I got housing, but I had decided ahead of time that I would live off campus. My personal preference.

So there's ONE spot open. I was offered a Unit 1 triple.

But I would suggest using craigslist. THey have listings everyday and that is how I found my apartment. It's very useful. It takes awhile to find the right one, but with stubbornness, not too bad. But ALWAYS visit the place before deciding anything.

I am living in a studio apartment for $875 a month on Telegraph. Really close to campus so I am happy. :)

I didn't receive housing either (nor an email to confirm it; had to call them instead). Are there any other good resources for finding rentals besides craigslist?

Kands.com has new listings pretty often. Just google Berkeley rentals and there are quite a few sites. I don't remember the link, but you can also try Hearst Commons. They have a website online that you can find by googling it.

Are you guys really frustrated at how we dont get dorms? I have so many questions like ...if this is a regular thing that some FPF students dont get housing....I was so disappointed because I really crave a dorm life and meeting loads of new people. Also, I'll feel more like not a regular student just because I'm a freshmen not living in the dorms.

So the few of you guys who didnt get housing at Cal, are you guys mostly from Norcal? And secondly, where are you guys thinking of getting your alternative housing and how long will you wait to get it?

Last year all FPF students who wanted housing received housing. It's my guess that the 2nd year guaranteed housing that many students accepted eliminated quite a few rooms that would have been for FPF students as in previous years.
