Housing decision

Well, might as well start thinking about it now, right?

I'm a pretty social guy. I like to go explore whatever's around, maybe find some parties, just see what's going on outside once I (sort of) get my coursework done (or to run screaming into the night from, say, problem sets. Either way).

I live east of St. Paul, MN, so I've pretty much learned to pretend that snow isn't there when I'm trudging through to wherever I want to go, so that shouldn't be quite as much of a problem as it might be for others. Living on south, want to go do something on north? Walk through three feet of snow? Great idea! Plus, then there's the shops downtown, just in case an errands run seems absolutely necessary.

I tend to end up all over the map, so it'd make it easier if I get to know people everywhere.

Short version: Want to get to know people all over, which dorms would be in a good spot for that? I'm hoping to study econ (so original), and don't need to go get schwasted -every- night, if either of those help with advice. I've been looking at rescolleges, too, anyone have any opinions on them?

Taaaankyous in advance.

You sound very similar to me, it’s scary. I’m a people person looking to have a good time but not too crazy, an econ major, a guy, lived in Chicago-area so snow=no big deal.

Well I’ve been looking at dorms a lot and for me, Elder on the North side seemed like the perfect fit, based on blogs/friends’ opinions who live/d there. It’s (supposely) that great mix of social people but without the dirty rep like Bobb’s.

Alright guys, here’s the deal. How big your social network gets will only marginally be affected by your dorm size and which dorm you’re in. Living in Bobb versus SMQ will just give you more people to say hi to. What makes the difference is how social the individual is. If you want to have friends all over the place, you can and probably will. Just pick the ‘best’ dorms in terms of location, comfort, renovations, whatever. These will be Elder, Bobb/McCulloch, Slivka for engineers, CCI if you like that stuff, Allison, and Willard.

Also, dorms vary in terms of residents each year. So if it seems cool now, it might not be cool when you get there. Unless it’s Bobb; that’s a bit more robust.
