housing during breaks?

how does housing during breaks work?

I would hate to have to pay extra fees to rent out an apartment during the shorter breaks that wouldn't be worth me going all the way back home...

I heard that if you live in shoreland you can stay during breaks, if not is it hard to get a room there during breaks?

thanks! :)

The Shoreland will be closed in the fall. You raise an interesting question since the Shoreland will no longer be available. I would address this question to the housing office: [Housing and Dining Services](http://housing.uchicago.edu/)

It’s certainly worth asking the question, but I am morally certain that one or another of the dorms will be open to students who want to stay at the university over breaks. In the past, it was the Shoreland, and it was open not just to Shoreland residents but to any student who wanted to stay there. It would be really surprising if they didn’t continue that policy using another dorm.

Don’t quote me on this, but I remember hearing from the housing office that the new dorm will be open to students during breaks. They’re trying to make the transition from the Shoreland as easy as possible, which means they don’t want to make waves by getting rid of interim housing.

It is also often possible to stay with one of your dorm mates’ families during breaks. Or you might house sit/dog sit for a professor over holidays.

You can stay at the new dorm over breaks.

Also, this is obviously not the most reliable option, but there are thousands of students with private apartments who go home over breaks. Befriend them and house-sit.
