Housing for a 23 years old

Hey guys!

I’m an exchange student from Sweden, Europe. I’ll stay here in Michigan for one semester, yayyyyyy! However, I’m worried about one thing, the housing situation. In Sweden we usually attend university later than you do here in the U.S, so I’m 23 years old and still an undergraduate. How old are the people living in dorms? Would it be weird for a 23 years old to live there?

Munger residence would probably be the best choice for me, but I read that they only accept contracts 12 months or longer and I won’t be there for so long. Do you know if they make exceptions? I want to get to know new people and living in an apartment would make that more difficult, in my opinion. What’s your advice?

Have you looked at the university’s Office of Off Campus housing to find a furnished sublease? There are students with 12 month leases for nearby housing that go away for a semester for co-op or study abroad and want to rent their room or entire apartment out to another student for a semester. You can learn more about that process, find sublet or room mate postings and get other suggestions from the university’s Office of Off Campus housing.

Agreed, for Winter Semester, subleasing is a great way to go. You’ll be able to get a lease at a quality apartment for 2/3 the normal price; maybe less.

And many of the sub-leased apartment will be CLOSER to campus than some dorms!

You can also try the co-ops and North Quad (upperclassmen dorm)

Thanks for the advice guys! I’ll take a look there as well
