I just got admitted for a graduate program at the USC for the fall 2013 semester! But I do not know where to live; I just know I want a private place for me, my wife, and my new born baby. I would prefer a furnished place with a washer and dryer. It would be nice to live the closest to the USC as possible, but since we are going to have a car, distance may not be an issue, but I think it is more comfortable to live near the USC. I hope you can help me to make a decision.

You can select “graduate housing” here, and it’ll show you a list:

[USC Housing Option - Where Do I Live?](http://housing.usc.edu/HousingOptions/BuildingSearch.aspx)

As for families… out of that list, a one bedroom at Tuscany is probably your best option and comes furnished. Aside from that, there are plenty of cheaper options available nearby (particularly on Ellendale); however they do not come furnished.

I was checking the Lorenzo apartments, but they are very expensive! Is there a website to check the Ellendale apartments? Is living near MacArthur park far away from USC?

MacArthur Park is far away and not somewhere I’d want to raise my family, but it could be alright for someone else.

Google for USC Housing or specific streets, such as Ellendale Housing

Living immediately North of campus is generally considered a little safer than West of campus, so more students live there. This also means there’s more parties and things that might keep a baby up on Friday, Saturday nights. West of campus will probably be quieter, and there’s a number of local families who live there. I lived West of campus (1200s block of W 37th Pl) over a year ago and didn’t have any problems. Since then they’ve provided yellow jacket security in the area.

try googling Ellendale apartments USC, they’re relatively cheap and are on one of the more quieter streets.

There are family housing units in Parkside, and probably in some other on-campus palces as well. Try emailing Housing.

I saw this before and didn’t get a chance to add anything… if you’re married and have little kids and are new to L.A., a good place to check out would be Park La Brea. A lot of USC people live there. It’s a big gated community in the center of the city with various apartments of various sizes and lots of families. It’s also next door to the Grove and Farmers Market, which have plenty of places to eat, shop, relax, and see a movie or two. Without traffic the commute to USC would be a half hour and more during rush hour, but the tradeoff would be that you wouldn’t have the sort of security concerns you would have if you lived in the neighborhood. It’s different if it’s just you and your spouse but another matter entirely when you have little ones.
