I've been accepted as an international student (AEP) at UCSB for the following year (fall 2006/spring 2007). While I do intend to arrive several weeks earlier than the start of the semester I do not currently have a place to stay. My intention was to scout Isla Vista for a room to rent. I'm almost 23 years old and will be travelling alongside a mate of mine who is 24. We have both completed 3 out of 5 years at our university in Norway.

So if any helpful souls could give help me with the following questions it would be much appreciated.

Is there any place in particular you would recommend?
Will scouting for acceptable rooms in Isla Vista be an impossible task?
Do most older students live off campus (ie private housing)?

I'll edit in more questions as they arise. Thanks!

1) No reccomendation really - though you'd probably want to live in Isla Vista somewhere and not Goleta to get the experience of UCSB.
2) It will pretty difficult to do so that late into the year. People begin leasing apartments in January and by July almost everything is full. You might want to check UCSB's rental database and call the CHO now:
