It’s not a long walk from campus at all – a less than 5 minute bike ride and a 5-10 minute walk, depending on how fast you’re going.

Portland St. between the Row and Adams is a very popular area for undergrads to live. Since the area is close to the Row and popular student housing, it is heavily patrolled by DPS and security and is pretty safe and not “ghetto.” I would say on that block, it’s 99% students, if not 100%.

I don’t know about the specific condition of the building, but USC apartments aren’t known for being “luxurious.” I do know that most housing buildings have been remodeled, so maybe call USC housing and ask if Founders was included in those recent upgrades? I knew a few people that lived there and said it was OK.

All you should keep in mind is that it’s close to the Row. If you want to be secluded, you might want to consider living elsewhere.

I’ll be in Founders next year too! It’s a little far, but with a bike it shouldn’t be too bad.

When I lived in Regal Trojan, which is a bit farther away from campus than Founders, it took me about 7 minutes to bike to the edge of campus. Walking just seems so slow after you get used to biking everywhere, so keep your bike locked up well!

You guys. Founders is NOT FAR. I’ll say it over and over.

You want far? Talk to me when you live on 22nd St. Crap, even living on Menlo or Ellendale is further from campus than Portland Street! It might look far on a map, but trust me – it’s not.

another question… so i’m coming in as a transfer (junior) and i’m really happy to even have housing, is it true that seniors can’t get housing? or is it just unlikely that they will? just trying to think ahead…

You’ll probably have hard time getting into USC-owned housing, but there are so many independently owned apartments and houses in the area, you shouldn’t have any problem finding a place to live or people to live with.
