housing frustration =/

well, this is more of a venting thread/desperate final cry for help than a question that anyone here can help me with, but i couldn't be more frustrated right now.

I got my original room assignment on the first day they started rolling out. i got my first choice of the honors quad. i had been placed in Blanton, which i was upset about at first but then i decided it could really be a good thing. i had also requested and been placed with this girl i've been talking to for several months and have met up with several times, so i was happy and was already out buying dorm supplies.

anyway, this was a couple of weeks ago, and i went on a camping trip and just got back today to find an email from housing saying my room assignment had changed (i did NOT request to be reassigned, i was plenty happy with my assignment). so i figured maybe my roommate and i just got placed in a different room within the same dorm or something, but no, it shows that i'm now on the TENTH FLOOR of Jester west! and it shows that i don't yet have a roommate.

i'm just frustrated and i really don't know what to do. i guess the most logical (well, the only logical answer really) is to just call housing.. but last time i called them, the lady only gave me about a minute of her time and was very rude. but i'll call anyway. what's even more frustrating is that i've already given out my dorm mailing address to several of my scholarship donors, so i'll have to go to the trouble of getting it changed.

i probably sound really whiney, maybe i'm just not very adaptive to change lol. i guess i should just try to call housing as soon as i can tomorrow. or maybe i should just quit complaining .... it's just that i was looking forward to living in the honors quad and with this girl, we had everything all planned out. and Jester can't be THAT bad, can it? =/ i just don't get WHY this would have happened. maybe they "accidentally" reassigned me and this will be a quick fix. i'm hoping so. if anyone has ANY answers or reassurance that will tide me over until tomorrow, go ahead because i'm kind of desperate. feel free to slap me back into my senses, because i realize that this is NOT that big of a deal - Jester isn't the end of the world, and whoever i end up with i could actually like.

Well if you’re in the honors program and requested honors housing then got it, there should have to be a very legitimate reason for housing moving you. The best thing to do is to call and be persistent in getting a logical reason. I got a room/roommate change email and checked it and nothing had changed from my previous room/roommate assignment. So it could’ve been a mistake that they moved you, but like I said, call them first thing in the morning, be patient to get ahold of someone and in talking to them because they’ve probably been getting a lot of calls lately. Make sure the girl you were talking to didn’t change her room/roommate preferences either before you call housing. If they don’t have a real reason, maybe it was just a mistake and you can get your blanton room back.

Calling them is the best way. Your going to get some people on the phone who are completely clueless about housing, but ask them to transfer you to someone who is more knowledgeable in dealing with these types of transfer mistakes. Don’t let up.

Are you in an honors program?

QueenofEverythin: yes, LAH.

but the problem is resolved now. i don’t know how they did it, but i called, gave them my UT EID, explained the problem, and it was fixed within a couple of hours! whew!

Congratulations. Glad you are back in the Honors Quad (assuming with your friend).

Awesome, congrats.
