Housing Information

I am an incoming international freshaman from India. Does anybody know what resident hall I would most probably be getting and whether I would be sharing a dorm with an international student or is that a totally random process?

I would also like to know what furniture is already supplied in the dorms?

Thank you :)

I’m pretty sure roommate selection is random; you probably won’t be paired with another international student. I’m not sure what dorm you’ll be in, but I’m pretty sure Slusher Tower is a common one for freshman. Here is a list of all VT’s residence halls:

and here are details about Slusher:

I think every dorm room comes with the same things that are listed under ‘Furniture’ in Slusher.

My son’s roommate last year was from Korea. International students are randomly assigned roommates and dorms like all other students choosing the “random” option. He was in Miles Hall, but I know there were other international students in Barringer, O’Shag, Pritchard, etc.

I have also chosen a suite style dorm with 24x7 visiting hours. I shortlisted according to this criteria and was left with Harper and New Hall West. Is this valid?

Yes, however, those are only preferences, not necessarily what you will receive. My son first choice was 24/7, co-ed, suite style. He submitted his housing request in February since he was accepted during early decission and was assigned an option 2, male only dorm. It is not easy for freshman to get the suite-style housing, but not unheard of. No matter where you end up, it all turns our great so don’t let it worry you.

Is it different for internationals also as I have also included the fact that i would like a building which would be open during the holidays? And thanks a ton. I was really worried about the kind of housing would I forgetting forgetting the whole picture and not realizing that it would be fun no matter what :)

Makes total sense. The 10-month dorms are currently Newman, Hillcrest, Main Campbell, Cochrane, and Donaldson Brown so hopefully you will receive the 10-month option. Good luck you will love VT.

I just checked and Donald Brown is for graduates. haha thanks for the list. Now, knowing the 10 months halls, keeping in mind my 24x7 visitation hours and suite style dorms, ive arrived at Hillcrest :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks a ton :D

But Hillcrest says its the home of Hillcrest hounors community  … I guess ill just have to wait till the end of this month :p
