Housing/Intent to Enroll

hey i dont know what to do. they say housing is guaranteed your first year on campus but i dont get some of my other college acceptances until April 1st. so should i confirm my intent to enroll to get me a housing spot cuz i would rather have one on central/NOT chemical free dorm?would that just be a hassle just in case i dont attend? or should i just wait?

My D was in your position last year, and we waited to put down the housing deposit. However, because she didn't decide until mid- to late- April where she was going, she DID end up in the substance free dorm. She was NOT happy about it initially, but ended up loving it there.

You have to remember, "substance-free" means that the dorm itself is substance free. You can still imbibe, but you can't bring it back to your dorm. There's a lot of positives to that.

Also, another point to consider is a lot of kids who didn't decide to attend CU until the last minute were some of the very brightest kids who had a lot of great options to choose from (i.e., they were at the upper end of the applicant pool to begin with, that's WHY they waited until the end to decide). That's why the substance free dorm had a lot of fun and interesting people in it.

Truthfully, if you haven't sent in your housing deposit by now, the chances of you getting a room on Main Campus are pretty slim. Since the admissions process starts in mid-September, there are a lot of kids who apply, get accepted, and put down their deposit all in a span of two weeks - months before kids who are considering other options ever even fill out the application.

I wish you the best of luck in your decision!

It's quite a lot of money, if I remember correctly. I sent in my confirmation deposit ($200) so that I could apply for the Kittredge Honors Program, but in order to apply for housing one must also pay the nonrefundable housing deposit ($300, I think?), and, personally, I don't think that's worth it. I just hope that I can still get in KHP even if I don't applying for housing until mid-April....
