I have a few questions about housing next year.

Including me, there are two groups of 4 of my friends (current freshmen/sophomores-to-be) who want to live together next year. The best lottery numbers we have are 154 and then 1074. After that, there isn't a number better than the 4000s.

We have split our group of 8 into two groups of 4 so that the two highest lottery numbers are split up. However, the way we are split up due to the lottery numbers, one of us (including myself) in each of the groups would rather be with the other group, only because we have better chemistry with the other group.

Considering we really do want to live together, we're pretty sure we want to get two suites in Bruce Hall.

So I have a few questions.

How difficult would it be to have a housing switch between one person in each of the two suites, assuming we get Bruce? I assume we will have to get it passed by someone, so do we have to actually make a dramatic story in hopes that the switch will be approved, or should we just tell teh truth that we want to make a switch? Any suggestions with this?

Is Bruce very popular/hard to get? Is it realistic to think that both of our groups, with 154 and 1074 lottery numbers, can both get 4 person suites in Bruce?

When we apply for Bruce, is it possible to request for the same floor? If so, is it realistic to think we can get the same floor?

If both groups get into Bruce you and your friend (that are switching) should talk to Panther Central ASAP to get the switch done. I say this because it’s better to have the switch already in the system before you move in next year rather than move in, then have to switch, and have it be a pain. But since you already have a person lined up willing to make the switch, it shouldn’t be a problem.

With number 154 you will be fine getting into Bruce. I am not sure about 1074. I want to say “yes” because most low-number sophomores-to-be will probably be aiming for Ruskin or Panther/PA as opposed to an older dorm on lower campus.

I’m assuming you haven’t, which is good, because your question 1 is moot. When you fill out the application form, that is when you get decide which people will be in which group.

If you did already turn in your form, ask PC to see if you can change it. If not, then here is how apartment/suite selection works:

PC will release a list of all the groups that get to pick apartments/suites on Feb. 20 at 5pm. If your group is on that list, the people with the 154 and 1074 lottery number should be seen at some point. Next to the name will be a date and time that they can log onto the system to pick a room.

When you log on, you’ll pick Bruce Hall, and then be able to see all the 4 person suites that are open for you to choose. The 154 person will obviously have much better selection. Really, it all depends on what is remaining when the 1074 person logs in later. There could be a lot of suites on every floor or none. The 154 person should tell 1074 what floor he picked and 1074 should try that floor first, and then subsequent floors.

As for if it’s realistic: Like I said that all depends on how many people want 4 person suites in Bruce and what kind of lottery numbers they have.

P.S. I saw your post on Reddit but thought that other people may benefit from it more here. You’ll probably get a similar response there soon too.

Okay…so Bruce is closed next year for renovations so that’s out of the picture. Have more questions…

What about McCormick Hall? Does anyone know the breakdown of the suites (how many three person, six person, and seven person suites there are)?

Also how are the three person suites in McCormick designed? Are there one, two, or three bedrooms in the suite? Is there a living room? Is it even nice?

Would a three person suite McCormick be attainable with a 1074 lottery number?

My son will be soph. next year. His # is in the mid 800’s. He is under the impression that the junior to be that he wants to room with next year can use his # and snag an apartment before sophs with lower #'s are able to participate. Is this possible?

Yes, the junior will pick before any of the sophomores do. The group will use the junior’s number. They need to turn in the form to PC for the apartments/suite before the due date. If they don’t get a dorm via the list, then they go through the lottery.

If you click on the floor plan, it will show you the layout of a typical floor. And you know how many floors are in McCormick total so you can do the math to figure out the breakdown of rooms from there.

Typically Sophomores tend to go for the suites on upper campus (Panther/PA) first because they’re nicer and newer, as well as the apartments in Ruskin. I imagine you won’t have a hard time getting a suite in McCormick with a 1000’s number.
