Question regarding the lottery

Let's say I got 5 as my lottery number (Upcoming Senior) and a friend who I want to live with next year (Upcoming Sophomore) got like a 17,955. I would be pretty much set to get the housing I want, which is the Apartments at Livi. Would my friend (regardless of what number he gets really) be able to live with me?

They go by the lowest lottery number in the group, but they are prioritizing senior groups for apartments this year. To me, this means that every, all-senior group would get to choose an apartment before your and other groups with non-seniors. So even with a 5, I do not think that Livi is guaranteed.

You got a 5?

What are the chances of getting something nice with a lottery number in the 2500’s

Mytwo it is hard to predict this year with the new class level prioritization of apartments, etc.

I would recommend your son or daughter form an all-senior group if they really want an apartment. Last year, they let groups of 4 living on Cook/Douglass get priority for Newell. Only 25 groups applied, and they all got housing in Newell. So theoretically, even if those people had crappy numbers, they got an apartment.

Don’t underestimate the disorganization of people.

Thanks rualum…I just posted my question on another thread. He is only a Sophomore next year. His very good friend from highschool got a very low 100’s, so not sure what my son want to do. Do you know anything about off campus
housing??

I will reply on the other thread.

Rualum…the Newell guarantee was only if all members of the 4 were SEBS students. That’s what tripped up my D and many of her friends, as they had 1-2 SAS students, which is why I believe there weren’t as many takers as they expected.

Having been in a Newell apartment, it’s not that great compared to others on C/D, so I can see why people weren’t falling over themselves to get in.

nj2011mom that is why housing has advised all students to read through the seniority guidelines and housing selection process web page. I guarantee you most of them have not and will not read any of it, probably like the Newell applicants.

imo Newell is preferable to dorm living.

afaik the reason that housing offered the Newell option was that many students on C/D who had research jobs were complaining that it was hard to get to C/D on time in the morning from other campuses and they wanted some housing reserved for them on C/D.
