Housing lottery timeslot...am I doomed?

Last yr when I was a rising sophomore, I got a timeslot of 7:40. The only housing left was program houses and one or two doubles on west. I'm living in a program house now. So, yes, you are probably doomed. You might want to look into apartments.

So last year was sign-up all on one day (per year)? This year the rising sophomores sign up over 2 days. My time slot is relatively early on the second day, so a little more than half way through. Any idea what might be left by then?

well this year there are more spots on west campus...but i think those currently on west campus have the option to choose to remain there...

so you're looking at there only being a few places on west, a couple more in collegetown and a lot in program houses (eco house and UJaama being the most spacious)

My daughter had a time slot 40 minutes earlier than ariel99 and ended up in a Cascadilla double with a random roommate. The only other options available at that time were in program houses, and the only singles were in Ujamaa.

Some people actually like Cascadilla, though (although my daughter is not one of them).

Oddly, if you're going to get stuck in a double with a stranger, it's better to be the SECOND person who chooses that room, rather than the first one. The second person gets to look at the profiles of the people who have already taken the first slots. My daughter picked her room on the basis that the girl who had already signed up had indicated a sleep schedule that was compatible with my daughter's. But the girl who took the first space had no such choice.

So that was one of the last time slots?

What does your daughter dislike or like about Cascadilla? I think I would prefer to be ON campus, but the dorms there didn't look bad. Is there any of the same "leave your door open and get to know your hall mates" in any upper-level housing like there is on North?

Thanks for all of the input everyone!! :)

My daughter basically doesn't like Cascadilla because it's noisy (the noise comes from the street, mostly) and because she doesn't particularly like Collegetown. Also, many of the rooms are very small. But I think her greatest objection is that most of her friends live on West Campus, and she feels isolated from them in Cascadilla.

There are advantages to Cascadilla, though, in that it has no required meal plan (unlike West Campus), and in that it is right in Collegetown, which some people really like. It's also conveniently close to the Engineering school.
