Housing Lottery

Anyone know when the Housing Lottery for waitlist/transfer students is going to be held? Getting a little anxious to find out if on-campus :) or not :( !

They have not even figured out where freshmen are going to stay yet - I had heard that more freshmen enrolled than they expected so that means that the rooms will be cramped as it is. I would most likely say that you will not be on campus. However, once August comes around and Housing finds out that so and so never actually showed up (maybe they were taken off the waitlist at another college and never told Notre Dame or so and so moved off campus instead and doesn’t notify ND until they never check in, they will start offering those spots to transfer students. It is unfortunate but you will most likely have to get a housing contract offcampus and then if Housing finds out they have an openning, you will probably have to pay both the off campus and on campus housing fees.

Does this make sense?

Does this mean freshmen still won’t find out for a while?

I heard they were supposed to find out by the end of next week. This is why they have not been announced yet (like last year they were announced on July 2).

Just an FYI - dorm and roommate info is now located in the “Under the Dome” section of insideND.

I think that’s just for freshmen, correct?

yes freshmen right now i believe - you could always try though

Son got #53 out of 90 male students in the lottery. Any idea of what this means in terms of his chances of getting on-campus? Note said nothing further will be communicated til Aug. 1st.

Nevermind - just read the rest of the e-mail. Looks like it’ll be a last minute room, if at all. So disappointed as living on a “real” campus (as opposed to the city as he was just in) was one of the major reasons he wanted to transfer :(

I feel really bad for you and I am sorry things did not work out – however, from what I have heard is that there are openings at the last minute, but I would not let this stop you from getting an off-campus house and then hope for the best and maybe get a dorm location.

You could always get an extended stay hotel for a week or two, and then if things don’t look like they are opening up, get an apartment. Worst come to worst it should only mean that your son is off-campus a semester (which is what happened to me). If anything it was a blessing because it helped me learn how to live in my own but I was still able to be on-campus for the majority of my time at ND

I completely forgot about this but irish68178 reminded me - I was talking to a rector on campus about this situation and I asked him if he is never not at full capacity. He said he is always at full capacity during the fall (obviously) but he said that more students go abroad during the spring than when during the fall. This opens up a number of rooms on campus and you can get one of those. After this you are already in the system and shouldn’t have to go through the whole process of lottery again.

Good Luck.

How’d everyone make-out in the housing lottery? Anyone looking for roommates off-campus? Thanks.

Don’t give up hope at all! My daughter’s old boyfriend was about 95 out of 98 on that list when he transferred in sophomore year. I believe within about 2 weeks of the start of the year he was placed in a dorm. It went really quick. Have a back up plan but I would be surprised if you are in an apartment for long! Good luck with your transition to ND and your living situation. It will all work out for you!

I’m #54, so I think I’ll start looking for off campus housing, even for a semester.
