Housing Offers

If you check your berkeley.edu emails, the housing is released.
I got a double room at Unit 2!

Double at Blackwell for my kid. I was low key hoping for him to get Foothill since I feel that is the safer area, but it’s all good.

my kid got double at unit 1…from my understanding, there’s very little price difference between standard double vs triple ?? if so…then we’re fortunate. is there a big price difference between suite vs standard ? is there a way to upgrade it or is it too late ?? many thanx in advance.

@ProfessorPlum168 Foothill maybe the “safer” area, but the southside is safe as long as you don’t wander late at night alone. Also, there is more access to good food and fun events. Plus, Blackwell is the newest hall, so its probably gonna be great!
@avz11ymc4 I think suites cost more, and I don’t think you can upgrade unless you ask someone? Also most triples are barely bigger than the doubles, so it can feel more cramped.
Anyone feel free to comment on your HOUSING RESULTS!

@SREE33 I think the main reason my my kid liked Blackwell is because it’s so close to the RSF. He loves playing basketball…hopefully he can subsist on ramen noodles if he has late night munchies.

Blackwell double also for DS. Did your email w the housing offer say valid starting on 8/19? I thought move in is on 8/14.

Yeah the contract start date is 8/19 on my kid’s as well. I guess we live close enough to commute for those 5 days :))

Double at unit 1 for my kid, is her first choice. I thought it would be fun for her to live at the new one but she wants a social dorm.

Anyone go for the Gold Plan for food by any chance? The breakeven analysis is that if a kid ate more than 16 meals a week in the dorms, then it would be worth it, as opposed to the 12 for the Blue plan. However with all the restaurant options in downtown and on Telegraph I can easily see the cafeterias being pretty boring quite fast for my kid.

@ProfessorPlum168 The rumor has it that the food is pretty boring and not so great at the cafeteria @ Cal, so unlimited food plan may not be such a great idea

We went to the Foothill cafeteria on Cal Day and I thought it was average. Best ones I’ve been to for student dining is UCLA and at UMass-Amherst. There are a lot of external choices in the Student Center at UC-Irvine, something I wished UCB had, inside the campus boundaries.

If he likes pizza or tacos, wouldn’t that be available as a late night snack nearby?

Re: #2 and dorm prices

https://housing.berkeley.edu/rates lists the prices.

Suggestion for new students: if there is any interest in living in the BSC cooperatives for the second year, put in the application now to get an early place on the waiting list.

@ucbalumnus I was referring to something like an eating area with different restaurants, within the campus boundaries. Stanford has that with their Tressider Student Union building for example. UCI is pretty awesome in this regard, they even have street vendor food choices.

@ProfessorPlum168 , we did the gold plan just to be on the safe side…if the blue plan had 14 meals per week then it’s a no brainer but at 12…i told my kid to level down for the 2nd semester if it’s not needed.
