I'm a new transfer student so my options are: Arroyo Vista (On-Campus), Vista del Campo Norte (Off-Campus), Camino del Sol (Off-Campus).

I'm basically trying to figure out how housing and food works and which to pick. While I am mainly asking about the financial aspects of them on this thread, any information regarding them is welcome - especially if it helps me decide which to choose.

According to:
UC Irvine Student Housing - Prospective Student - for Transfers

Costs (monthly)

Arroyo Vista - $577 - 9 month contract
Vista del Campo Norte - $967 - 12 month contract
Camino del Sol - $836 - $1,028 - 12 month contract

After 9 months in Arroyo Vista I would have to move back home for 3 months until school starts again?

It also says those figures don't include a meal plan.

Are there any other costs/fees of living in any of those? For example, I believe in Arroyo Vista they clean the bathrooms and some of the common areas, is that price included in the $577 or would I pay more?

So living in Arroyo Vista would be the cheapest. However, would I be forced to get some meal plan with the school or would I be able to shop/cook for myself?

Would it make sense to live in one of those 2 Off-Campus houses and get a school meal plan?

If I do get a meal plan which would you recommend?

Are meal plans cheap/expensive compared to cost of food on your own?

I'm not sure what to expect in the Off-Campus housing. I've heard a lot of generic answers like Arroyo Vista is more of the "College Experience." That's great and all but I'm not really sure what that means. What are the concrete differences between them?
