HOUSING OPTIONS 2016: San Rafael, Manzanita Village, Westgate...

Hey guys,
I submitted my TAG to UCSB for fall 2016 and have been looking into the housing options available to transfer and continuing students. My top choices would be Manzanita Village, San Rafael, and Westgate.

I am interested in Westgate because of the studios they have to offer. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to secure one? Is the area nice? Anyone have any experience with Westgate in general?

Being a transfer student I am also interested in living in one of the residence halls. I seem to like Manzanita and San Rafael. Manzanita has a great location and San Rafael has a good transfer student community. What do you guys think would be the best experience for a pre-med student who is serious about their studies, but also likes to go out and have fun?

I would appreciate any feedback you guys have for me!

I would recommend picking one of the residence halls. Having lots of fellow students around on the floors and taking meals in a commons will let you meet people quickly.

As for being studying, go to the library! Maybe you can write up a lab or do some busywork in your room, but for serious studying I suggest picking blocks of time and going to the library (between classes, before dinner, a shot in the evening, some hours on the weekend). A lot of kids say they spent the afternoon “studying” but what they did is snack, text, some video games, and an occasional page or two. Then they’re tired and 3 hours went by. The point is that no matter where you live this year or next, decouple where you live from where you study.

Thanks for the advice! After thinking about it some more, I agree that a residence hall would be beneficial. San Rafael supposedly has a lot of transfer students and I think I would have a lot of common ground with them. I definitely will make use of the library!
