Jaysen, since you are moving in without knowing your way around or having a lot of friends or relatives in town to move in with, you can just use Dobie or Castilian for your back up plan. These are very much like living on campus.

The person at Dobie told me they are out of efficiency and studio plus plans. They have studios left though. The guy seemed like he was lying but I would call to check. If they are sold out, they really aren’t a good back up plan because you will be left with suites/single suites, which are 1k-6k more.

We toured Jefferson West on Saturday. There are still some rooms in several units for guys only. Not sure about its rating thou.

I would agree with what midwest said. I transferred here this semester and was at the Castilian.

My friend and I signed a contract with 21 Rio today. It’s about 42% full now. Most of the available units are 2 bedrooms/2 baths. I am sure the price will drop significanly after mid July if anyone still looks for apartment at that time.

How much was it per bedroom? $900? If so, that’s a little bit pricey. :/

There are many plans with different room sizes. It’s very different from other student apartments we toured. Our room is one of the biggest, it’s $1150 a room. We each will pay $575/mo. They are waiving $400 security deposit and each room gets $600 Amex gift card. I know it’s expensive but I have to have a bathroom inside the room because I have a cat. This is the main reason I can’t live in the dorm. $575 is within our budget and this will work out for us. You can wait until July to book it if you are a risk taker. The apartment is quite nice. The floor and wall are much thicker than other apartments.

That actually sounds like a pretty good deal for one of the newer apartments. I’ll probably wait until July as I’ll wait to see if I can get a dorm. Thanks for the information!

There are a lot of bad reviews about j26, dobie, and castilian. I’ve been debating on what dorm to live in and I can’t figure it out myself.

I’m the transfer from last year who lived in Dobie and made the thread Midwestmom linked. I ended up living in a studio which is a little roomier than most dorms i’ve been in. I have no major complaints about Dobie other than sometimes the food is bad, but when in doubt - get a burger or something from their grill menu. It really isn’t that bad. Also it can be frustrating waiting for the elevator or having to use the elevator if you are on a top floor like I was (room 22) but even the wait for the elevators isn’t too bad, and it definitely got better as the year went on and people started walking up or down a floor to avoid pressing consecutive floor buttons. I’ve heard worse things about other places like the Castilian, so if you have no other options I suggest looking into Dobie before they run out of space. Plus it was nice having weekly maid service.

I don’t think Castilian was bad. The bad reviews were from another management company. Plus, the castilian had four elevators instead of the two elevators at Dobie. The elevators are remodeled in 2009.
