Housing Preference

What up guys. I was curious of what those who are attending next year will do in terms of requesting a single or a double? I am completely undecided which I will do. Please also explain your reasoning. Thanks.

I'm definitely going to request a single. I'm an only child and am not used to sharing a space, lol. I also am a generally quiet/low key person, and I need a refuge where I can sleep/study/chill in peace without being a bore/nuissance to my roommate. I'm also OCD about neatness/cleanliness. So in my case, a single would probably be best. I think some people do really well with roommates, and having is roommate is one of those unique college experiences, so maybe I'd be missing out. I personally think Barclay is a nicer dorm, but I'm going to request Gummere so I can hopefully have a single.

hey guys...
i'm a recent grad...

not sure what your housing forms state but...

all rooms in gummere are single
most rooms for frosh in barclay are "single-ish"... with the triplexes (enter large common room that's someone's room and then 2 tiny side rooms to the left and right. a fraction of frosh in barclay live in real doubles. hca are 2 bed/1 bath for 4 people.

if you ask for single sex bathrooms, you'll wind up in hca.

I had a double in Barclay and wouldn't have traded it for any other room on campus. Although most people I know were happy with their dorm. On another note, requesting single sex bathrooms does not guarantee the apartments. Although unlikely, you could also wind up on the single sex bathroom hall in Gummere. If you want the apartments, stress that you want a roommate, too.

Like you already know, there are three options for frosh: Barclay, Gummere, and HCA. And like every year, most people end up saying the place they lived freshman year was the best. I was in Barclay my freshman year and loved it- the rooms are relatively big, ceilings are high, nice bathrooms, great hallways, the best dorm location on campus (no debate). I've also lived in HCA, which I loved for a more independent life- it's larger, you can decorate it like an actual home, i could cook my own food, i was a little bit farther from campus but still a part of the community. I've never lived in Gummere and quite frankly, don't really understand it's allure (why do people ever use the reasoning of Gummere basement as a positive?). You'll be happy wherever you end up, don't worry ;)

if you are concerned about noise than gummere may be a problem. i lived their my freshman year, and the ambient noise was realy problematic.

i agree.. i loved my room in gummere, but the walls are REALLY thin.

Somebody we know?
Congratulations!
