So as an incoming Freshman I’ve been reading all the Newton/Upper debates and weighing the options, but I have a question. I know that on Upper I have a chance of being placed in a forced triple, my question is: if come August I find out I am in a forced triple can I then opt to live on Newton or am I simply stuck with it?

I’d rather live on Newton than be in a forced triple on Upper, so if I do get put in a forced triple will I be able to request Newton to “get out of it”?

I think you might find out in July rather than August! Anyway, I have heard of people moving around rooms once they’ve been placed, so it is definitely not impossible but it might be difficult depending on who else wants to move around at the time.

However, forced triples are not that bad. I had a lot of friends in forced triples and they didn’t seem to mind too much. As long as you work things out with your roommates prior to coming to BC (who gets which parts of the closet and under the bed space), it should be fine. Honestly, I know a lot of people that actually opted for forced triples in order to avoid being on Newton in the first place! However, if you’re really really concerned about being placed in a forced triple, you can always request Newton and they will most likely honor your request. Don’t worry too much about the housing situation…it all works out in the end.

Ah thanks for the response. I’d rather live on Upper as well, though I’d definitely prefer Newton to a forced triple. That’s why I’m unsure about what to do, I don’t want to request Newton since I could get Upper, but being in a triple is not worth Upper to me.

People think forced triples are worse than they are. I’m not saying I would want to live in one (I had a nice natural triple with our own bathroom), but I’ve spent a lot of time hanging in my friends’ forced triples and it is really nothing to stress about! Also, there is always the chance of being de-tripled.

Of course this is all personal opinion…I’d just rather sleep in a room with less closet space than have to wake up a half hour earlier to take the bus to class.
