housing....

so i finally paid my deposit for BC today and i’m really excited! except i have to figure out what kind of room i want, and i can’t decide.

i definitely want to live on newton, but i can’t decide between a triple, quad, or double. i think it would be cool to live with three or four other people, but does anyone have some bad experiences with these types of dorms? how are they with size?

Congrats on paying your deposit as I feel I am the lone holdout as May 1 approaches. I guess I'll just tell you what I know about housing in general.

You're guaranteed not to have a forced triple on Newton, so that being said, choosing a double isn't a risk because you will get a double.

A triple, even though it's more room, is still the same amount of room per person. I think a lot of people in triples find that there is always an odd man out. Hopefully that won't be you, but think about when you hang out with two other people. Doesn't always one person tend to be left out?

A quad would have tons of space, but it's still the same per person. Atleast here no one would be left out (hopefully). However, the more people in a space, the more room for conflict.

I'd say go with a double. With all luck, you'll probably get a 4 man or an 8 man sophomore year (or however the housing works), then you can experience living with a lot of people. For now, I think living with just one person is enough of an adjustment and it'll be quieter too. If you want interaction, you can always go to common areas.

questions:

1) how do you know if you get 3 or 4 years of housing?
2) is the shaw spec. interest housing application due on may 1 like the rest of them, or later?
3) how long is the bus ride from newton, walk to upper?

i haven't decided either elm tree. so that makes... 2 out of 2500 or something . yay!

In the third paragraph of the acceptance letter it says "Please note that you have been assigned *** years of campus housing." My son was assigned 3 years, I think that is pretty common. I know he will want to be in an apartment at some point anyway. I think the bus ride to Newton is only a few minutes.

1) how do you know if you get 3 or 4 years of housing?
It states the years of housing you have in the application letter.

2) is the shaw spec. interest housing application due on may 1 like the rest of them, or later?
I dont know exact dates, but I think interest housing was due sometime in july last year. Again I'm not sure, but I know that it is definitely after deposit submissions.

3) how long is the bus ride from newton, walk to upper?
It obviously depends on traffic conditions, weather, and where you're getting picked up, but it generally takes about 7 minutes to get from Newton to the Main gate of main campus. The walk from upper to the quad (Devlin, Gasson, Fulton, Lyons) takes about the same time as the bus ride to main.
