Housing Question

So I filled out my housing application about a month ago and put down this

1st: Sledd
2nd: Fletcher
3rd: Mallory

I then found out that freshmen never get Sledd or Fletcher (which makes me wonder why they put them on the housing application in the first place...)
So I went back to change it, and I was going to put: Mallory, Reid, Yulee. But for some reason reid and yulee aren't on there...

hmm?

And also...
Any comments about Broward, Jennings, and Rawlings? I visited the campus and I didn't think they were very nice looking, but I also heard they were the most social dorms.. is this true?

Whoever told you that is wrong. If you want generalize it, it would be better to say most freshmen don't get Murphree
Hall. There are only 4 spaces left in Murphee, about 150 in Sledd/Fletcher, and ~100 in Buckman/Thomas for next year.

There is a lot of information in past threads.

Also I think you have to think about what you want. Fletcher/Sledd has a different atmosphere than Mallory/Yulee/Broward/Jennings. I like fletcher of the first two and mallory and yulee of the second group.

I definitely noticed that Reid was only down for the fine arts living/learning community. Very strange.

I've heard that Broward/Jennings/Rawlings tend to be the traditional freshman dorms and thus are a little less nice [not that any are particularly nice] and more social. I think it's going to be what you make of it, in the end.

ASMAJ, where are you getting availability information? Do you know about Graham/Simpson?

there's lots of space available for graham/simpson. I think simspon is where all the rejects get placed. =( lol i don't think anyone in simpson actually requested simpson. it's strictly a freshmen door. btw the beds in graham are weird. they have the beds super low and you can't adjust it to make it higher. maybe they'll change it next semester?

the upperclassmen has access to the housing website where it shows you what dorms are available and what rooms you want to request and who is going to be your roomie.

I got the information for some housing personnel in the Murphree area.

Some put it as their number 2 b/c they want to be close to Hume to participate in the honors housing activities.

Hmm..that's interesting. I don't think anyone in my floor requested simpson, yet here we are lol. My (random) roomie and I, and some friends from high school requested murphree/fletcher/sledd.

One of my friends got into Hume but she's not in the honors program.

ugh
okay but does anybody know why I can't put down Reid or Yulee in my housing app?
I want to change it around so that it goes Mallory, Reid, Yulee. But Reid and Yulee aren't on the drop down list :(

I know Reid and Yulee have those learning communities, but you should be able to pick those dorms if want. I would call housing to see what's wrong.

They're on the list, they're just listed under the names of their learning communities, so it's not the way you think it would be listed alphabetically.

For Yulee, it's listed under "Global Learning Living Community at Yulee" and for Reid it's listed under "Fine Arts Learning Living Community at Reid". If it's not listed under those things (and you've already tried that), I'd call housing, because they should be listed.

ok i found them
hmm so what does that mean exactly?
"Global Learning Living Community at Yulee" and "Fine Arts Learning Living Community at Reid" ?

You should be able to select them without being in the community, which is what I don't understand.

When I visited my friend in Graham last year, she and her roommate had their beds adjusted up...I really hope that I can too if I get into Graham.

I picked it because I think the location is pretty...

Academic Initiatives & Enhancement >> Main Menu

A dorm might have a program but you dont have to be involved with it. Housing is just trying to group people with similar interest into one dorm. Like East has the engineering program/majors but you dont have to be an engineering major.

Sledd hall has a very old feel to it. I stayed in Murphree for 2 summers (next door to Sledd) and not only are the rooms nicer, the bathrooms are only 3-4 rooms per. Not to alarm you, but they were cleaning them for Asbestos last summer :P.
