I’m wondering which dorm to apply for. The apartments look the nicest, but I fear I will miss out on the whole college “dorm” experience and not meet as many people. I like the idea of co-ed floors and a social hall. Any suggestions from Cal Poly students?

Hello extra1,
I am a current Cal Poly student. I chose the apartments because it is the nicest.

Pros of apartments:
get own kitchen to cook
get own room
share bathroom with only one person
if you are a freshman, the cost for an apartment and dining plan is almost the same as the cost for a dorm/dining plan

Cons of cerro apartments:
not as social as a dorm, but you may be more connected to your suite mates
less plus dollars to spend on campus (I ended up with 200 plus dollars. My friend who lives in the dorms ended up with 525 plus dollars). You still get the same number of meal credits though (8)

Pros of dorms:
potentially get to meet more people
if choose certain dorms (like Yosemite, Sierra Madre), you may hear more about outside parties and events
525 plus dollars vs 200 for apartments
may be a bit closer to classrooms than cerro
depending on dorms, there is a higher chance that you will be put with people with the same majors/interests as you

Cons of dorms:
share shower/bathrooms with at least 10 people
share bedrooms with one -two people

That is all I can think about for now. Hope that helps! :)
