Question about the housing applications

i have just been emailed about the housing application. it says that it is based on a first come first serve basis. would it be too late if i wait until all the UC’s are done notifying.

last year, i heard they filled up housing within the first day.. but i dont think the housing app was available this early before! i mean.. i know a lot of people that haven't clicked the accept button yet because they're still waiting for UCs or other schools. and you can't fill out the housing app til you click accept.. so i don't really know. i think most people are still waiting.. although.. it is on a first come first serve basis.

Yea the housing situation at SLO is something that may keep me from going. I'm still waiting to hear from 3 more schools.

what will happen if they run out of space

yaa their housing is limited.. there's always off campus.. but i don't know if i'd want to do that. i don't think you really get that college feel unless you stay in the dorms.. but that's just me.

off campus.. they have a lot of apartments right there next to the school and there's also tons of houses that people live in

My son is really disappointed that they have changed the housing acceptance situation this year. It doesn't seem fair to put up housing before all of the application decisions are even in. Most schools do housing along with SIR on May 1st. He may decide against Cal Poly because of this policy.

yea the policy stinks i cant click the accept button until 48 hours after admittance and you cant apply for housing without clicking the accept button so i will be a day behind

Last year if you didn't apply within the first day, you didn't get on-campus housing. It's some serious crap to deal with, but off-campus housing isn't too bad.

I applied within the first couple of hours and I barely made it onto on-campus housing, and even then there's a huge chance you're grouped with 2 or 3 other people in an overflow room. Cal Poly's housing sucks for freshmen.

I heard Cal Poly was planning to enroll 1200 leass new students this year and that they have also opened some new dorms ...........NT

The housing website says 1500 new beds in the Poly Canyon apartments this year but they are the subject of a lottery that has already taken place. I suppose that means up to 1500 additional dorm beds made available starting tomorrow. Where did you get the 1200 fewer students? That works out to 12 fewer architecture students than last year!

517lakeside--

Poly Canyon is for sophomores and beyond--not freshmen.

I understand that but many of those sophomores that are moving to Poly Canyon are vacating other dorms that are available to lowly freshmen.

IDK about everyone else, but I got an email about housing saying I was a "Partner Student" and that a spot has been reserved for me until March 28th and if i didnt submit my application by then, then it was on a first come first serve basis. Anyone else get this message?

Does anyone know if you can request a roommate (friend of mine who was also accepted for fall quarter) on the housing application.

you can, but the other room mate has to request the other person as well

Thanks for the information DECAms!

Cerro Vista will now open for freshmen. This means an additional 800 spots when compared to last year. We went into the housing office in late February-we found this info from them. Poly Canyon will be for sophomores.
