Can someone please explain the intrinsiciacies of housing selection for next fall? I do not understand what SBU means with priority points. For instance, I am currently a freshman who is 7 credits away from having junior status. Does that mean that I can register with sophomores for housing or will I still need to register with other freshmen? Do I get some sort of priority? Also if lets say during housing selection, someone wants to room with me, but I finished my selection process on Solar, can they still do it or no? I mean do we get a set date and time for selecting housing, similar to selecting classes for next fall?

I believe the process boils down to the following:
-upperclassmen have some higher priority (soph > fresh)
-people already in the same building have some higher priority
-people already in the room have highest priority

You can work out the points, but this is how it goes. Beginning on march 24th, students have to pay the deposit before stating what their housing preferences are. Whether people who pay early have better chances of getting their desired assignment or with regards to your other questions, I am not sure. The best wy to find out would be to give housing a call.

What determines our class standing, is it the amt of credits that we have that are correlated if we are defined as a senior junior, soph, freshman or is it the yr we are supposed to graduate? I mean some ppl graduate early if they have enough credits, so is that a factor? Can someone else comment please.

the former; the number of credits determines what year you are in, regardless of what year you started. The only reason I see for you to be worried about the # of points is if you want to move buildings or go to a single. If you are staying in the same building or room, you should be good.

Wait I thought that singles were only for medical reasons. Can ppl with non-medical reasons get singles in, lets say Roth Quad?

Of course. For example, my medical reason is I am freaking sick of my idiotic roomate : ). But yes, anyone can apply for singles.

Agreed. It sucks more for me since I am still tripled.

Wait, there are singles in Roth Quad? O_O

I have one in my suite as proof. Sadly no one is allowed to de-triple into it b/c its a medical single. Interestingly enough they claim that it has a waiting list, but no one seems to be on it b/c they have moved in by now. How stupid is that?
