I reaaaaally want to get a single, I sent my housing form somewhere around February, then one day I updated it again, and it was around April, I am worried that it became too late so that I don't get at least the advantage that people picking single dorm's as early as Feb. have... Am I crazy? Or will they 'ignore' the update?

I wouldn't be extreeemly sad if I got a roomate, however personally I think I would benefit more having a single dorm, since I have shared room with 2 sisters all my life :P

Anyone know anything about my chances on getting a single??

you’re assigned to a room based on your deposit date, not the date you updated the form. no worries.

Don’t count on a single, even if you were the first person to submit a deposit. Most upperclassmen don’t even get singles. Besides, most of the singles available to freshmen are in IV because they happen to be attached by a bathroom to an RA (or a very weird squeezed layout of the floor). Those rooms are just random, because they’ll go by LLC. So your deposit will get you into (for example) the Honors LLC, but won’t guarantee you a single even if there are some available.

Thanks both of you… On one side I am relieved, I guess I’ll have to wait a couple of weeks to know exactly what I’m going to get, I’m just so excited that the wait makes me anxious!

I don’t think it’s a couple more weeks. My freshman year, we knew by orientation and I went to the very first one. So you should be finding out soon.

she’s right, i called housing a couple months ago with some random questions and they said we should find out our housing information on June 15th

and it is also true that SOME priority is given to those who submit their deposits early. it doesn’t matter when you submitted the housing form.

but once again, i wouldn’t count on getting a single… they’re rare, especially for freshmen

Singles used to be rare, but they added about a thousand in IV. Not so rare anymore. Although if you’re a freshman your odds are very slim- upperclassmen though have decent chances.

So… no they did not add “about a thousand”. There are 1200 beds in IV, and a massive chunk of those go to the honors program, which has doubles. There were over 500 first-year students in the honors program last year. A few other LLCs for freshman were added into IV last year, and we assume a few more will this year, but that definitely won’t increase the chance of getting a single by much- unless you happened to get very lucky and picked the LLC that is in IV AND that LLC happens to also have a lot of singles (again, slim chances).

As someone who just got one, I’d like to add that IV has a fairly large number of singles available for students in the Honors program. If you were accepted to honors, and indicated that you were willing to pay the extra $700 a semester for one I’d say your chances are fairly good.

If you aren’t in the honors program, I would go with everyone else’s answer and say your chances are not particularly good.

Check the floorplans for IV if you want an idea how many exist.

I got a single!! yaay! I guess I was pretty lucky, but there were some other people in the group who got single, they requested it, so I think they aren’t so rare afterall… Maybe there’s just not really too much people that want a single dorm for freshman year…
