Housing strictness for visitors or guests

I got a single room, and my boyfriend is visiting me for four nights. I believe I won't get into any troubles cuz I don't have roommate, but I saw the policy for visitors on the housing rules handbook says no long term(more than three nights) visitors or guests is prohibited....so does anyone know if Emory is strict on this rule?

I really don’t think they care…especially if there is no roommate. It should be fine.

I seriously doubt anyone would even notice that a non Emory student was staying with you. Just don’t be too loud after 1AM and no one will realize you’ve violated the rules.

Even then, there will be so much going on with the other students (I’m assuming freshmen), I’m sure something like that would be the last thing to attract attention

Still, for the first week or so, some RAs like to crack down. That’s why I suggested being quiet after 1AM (seems like common courtesy anyways). Btw, when I say to be quiet, I’m not talking about sex. No RA will interfere if she hears groans coming from one of her resident’s rooms, but she might if she hears shouting at one in the morning.

I was talking about the same thing. I was mainly assuming that there likely wouldn’t be as much noise coming from the interaction of those two people in a room as opposed to all of the stuff that will likely be happening in the hallways or other parts of the dorm. The beginning of the year is often pretty wild in freshman dorms (with exception of maybe a couple of the newer ones) on main at least.

Thank you all for your replies. I just found something surprising about Emory dorm. There are about two RA and two SA on my floor…seems strict. Have you guys lived in Harris Hall before?

Doesn’t matter (how is that surprising, that’s almost always how it works). Harris is one of the wilder ones (sure it will remain the same even after this summer’s renovations), so I don’t think you have to worry. The RAs and SAs will likely be occupied with other things. They won’t care to regulate who is in your room. By the way, Harris is very nice now. Not too different from the newer ones. You’ll enjoy it.

The first weekend or so of college is when many sheltered students (and believe me, there are many at Emory who fit that description) go to their first college party. Those students often don’t know how to handle themselves and the RAs will be occupied with that as well as emergency housing stuff. Your RA will be too busy to care that a guy that she doesn’t know, but probably presumes is an Emory student, is in the hall.

Also, a LOT of Emory students end up living with their boyfriends or girlfriends even if they’re living in the dorms. No RA is going to say anything because they’re just relieved that the BF isn’t constantly sexiling his roommate.

Harris’s reputation goes beyond the stereotypical, “this is our first time to party in college” haha. A very interesting place indeed. When Complex was for freshmen, it was similar, but not quite as intense. But at least Harris has some sort of character. Again, outside of the other old ones (Dobbs and Mcteir), the same can’t really be said. The rest are essentially 4 star hotels in looks and character.

Is Dobbs just as crazy as Harris, or crazier?

Definitely not, it is just funner than normal because it’s atmosphere is that of a tight nit community; members in it actually interact heavily. It also has solid gathering spaces especially for it’s size (the Parlor is really nice for example).

Depends on your RA. Just don’t make it obvious. If the two of you mind your own business, your boyfriend might even go by unnoticed. The only problem might be going to the bathroom, if other guys see him in the bathroom.
