Housing Suggestions

I am Computer Science Undergrad freshman and planning to attend UMN.
Could anybody suggest me which residence halls would be closer to the CS building .
I would also like suggestions on any room types you / your daughter/sons have lived in.Like are the double rooms too congested?
What are your views on suites and how big are the bathrooms?
Also I’m an International student so would prefer if I live somewhere where I can find more foreign students.

BUMP.

Middlebrook houses a lot of international students (many of the foreign language LLC’s are there as well). It’s on the West Bank; however, that is a short walk or shuttle to the East Bank classrooms. You can get online and look up the room size, etc. Bathrooms are suite-style (two doubles tend to share a bathroom) instead of corridor-style (two larger bathrooms for everyone on the floor).

Middlebrook has the reputation of being boring but that’s an advantage for my D17, who has specified that as her first choice. She would rather party away from where she sleeps and studies

If you prefer singles there are options for that in the Superblock (Centennial/Frontier/Territorial) or Yudof. Comstock perhaps, as well, given that next year it will be freshmen-only (due to renovations at Pioneer). All these choices are on the east bank - Yudof and Comstock are right across from Coffman (student union)! Do keep in mind that your freshman year will consist of pre-reqs. for your major and liberal ed. courses - you may not be doing much CS till you declare your major. Therefore, your choice of dorm may not yet need to depend on proximity to the academic department.

Good luck to you!

Middlebrook is on the west bank and not that convenient to the computer science classes. My son is studying CS and Economics. He enjoyed being in a single in Centennial and it is a very convenient location.

@singermom4 are his Econ. classes over in Hanson? Because that’s on the West Bank.

@singermom4 How much time would it take from Middlebrook to CS classes any idea? And I not really wanna go for centennial as I would prefer semi private bathrooms.Still,Suggestions welcome.

@ChampBoy, assuming all your CS classes are in Keller Hall, that’s a 5 minute walk from Centen. 18 min. walk from Middlebrook but much shorter by campus bus.

Again, keep in mind that you might be doing mostly pre-reqs and LE courses your first year. Unless you are planning to start at a sophomore level of instruction, you probably don’t need to be so close to the CS building right away.

@ChampBoy check out Yudof. It has private and semi-private bathrooms and is located on the East Bank.
