Housing UCSB

I know this is early but I got into UCSB (YAAAYY!!) and I am definitely going, but I have no idea which residence hall to choose. I'm leaning towards Anacapa and Santa Rosa because it's close to classes and ive heard its easy to make friends, but I've heard a lot of freshman go to Santa catilina and I don't want to be left out. What types of people live in each resident hall (party people, people who are always studying, quiet people)?

Hey! I got in and im going as well. Im choosing between santa catalina and manzanita village. But i read that manzanita is for jr and sr

Santa Catalina is 1.5 miles away from campus while Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, and Anacapa is right inside the campus. I’m clearly biased, but I see Santa Cruz as having more conservative-minded people (they have the substance-free floors); Santa Rosa has more partiers (they have the Wellness, Environmental and Black Scholars halls); and Anacapa has more studious people (they have the Honors and Asian Scholars floors ;).

If you like to party, live in FT. That doesn’t mean you wont find people that live on campus who like to party, it is just that there are far less of them. San Mig and San Nic are the worst ( they are older), the others (shorties -anacapa, santa rosa, santa cruz) are about the same. FT has its own pool, and a large, grassy field next to it. In addition to that, it also has many study rooms, so going all the way to the library to study isn’t necessary. I would say it is about a 7-10 min bike ride to campus. Nothing too bad at all, plus it keeps you in shape haha.

Is it easy to make friends in FT? Are people mostly open and nice? How far is it from the beach? If you lived in one of the other houses is it still easy to make friends with people who live in FT? Sorry I have so many questions I just want as much info as I can get.
I know the different houses have different events. Does anyone know what they are?

I’m definitely attending and I only want to live in Santa Catalina/FT how can I ensure I get into FT. Are there any substance free floors there or other themed floors? I heard you get placed first if you select a themed floor and pretty much are guaranteed your first choice.

@CaliforniaRooted- According to UCSB’s housing website, Santa Catalina has Outdoor Adventure, Multi-Cultural Experience, Scholars, Quiet, and Substance Free floors. With that said, keep in mind that this info could be for last year (and therefore may be different for Fall 2013).

Thanks for looking that up summer!

When we visited UCSB’s dorms recently they told us the theme floor locations are not the same every year, they change depending on how many people want to live in each theme.

So would picking a theme possibly have me in a dorm I don’t want then?

I’m sure we’ll know more about the (confirmed) theme floors for 2013 when the congrats package is sent out within the next month or so.

Yeah that makes sense :)
