Does anyone know how easy it is to get on-campus housing after the freshman year? Is it possible to live on campus all 4 years?

It all depends on your lottery number you get each year. If you get a good/decent number, you can get housing in some way shape or form. Again, it is possible to live on campus all 4 years, if you’re lucky/fortunate to get a lottery number or room with someone with a low enough lottery number for 3 years.

What determines your lottery number? Does it help to apply as soon as possible? Or is it just random?

I was told at the visitor center that there usually isn’t an overflow of housing or anything like that, and that usually everyone gets accomodated, at least for the sophomore year. Do many just eventually gravitate off-campus? Just was curious how competitive it is after that, since only 44% of the whole student body lives on-campus.

And how’s the off-campus housing system? Is it easy to find apartments, etc?

Sorry about all these questions. Thanks again.

I don’t know anything about off campus living. I’m a freshman who’s going to live in the apartments on campus next year. As for the lottery, it’s random. If you apply first, you may still get a number in the thousands whereas if you apply in the middle of the pack, you may get the lowest number. Application time doesn’t matter in the least.

The lottery number is definitely really random. I applied as soon as apps opened for 2 years (within 15 minutes), and one time I got sub-1000 and the other time it was over 9000. Also, sometimes they do get overcrowded; there have been instances of lounges becoming temporary accommodation, hotel accommodation (are they still doing that?), and requesting people break contracts and move off-campus.

I received the following email (I’m an incoming transfer):

Hello, any student who applies for housing will receive an assignment. The later the application is received the less chance you will have of being assigned to your top campus preferences.
