Hi guys,
I am having trouble choosing housing. I would like to choose between Stern and Unit 3. Advantages and disadvantages?
Anyway I would prefer to be in Stern as it is all-girls
Also, singles for freshmen is virtually impossible right?

Location’s definitely a factor. Stern is located on the north side of campus, whereas Unit 3 is located on the south side of campus. If you’re taking classes more along the lines of engineering, Stern would be a convenient location. Most other classes like in Dwinelle or Wheeler would be closer to Unit 3.

I’m not sure if Unit 3 has an all-female floor, but there are single sex floors within the units if you’re hesitant about the bathroom problem.

Singles are virtually impossible unless you’re DSP, or any other special reason.

Okay, thanks
What about the food?
Just forget the single part.
And UNIT 1?

Food wise, Cafe 3 quality tends to beat Crossroads. But variety wise, Crossroads has more stuff so if one station is crappy, you still have hope that two other stations might suit you better. For Cafe 3, you will have only 1-2 stations. By stations, I mean main course since both DCs have pizza/pasta, etc…

This year Cafe 3 is only opened M-Th, which mean you have to walk to Xroads for Fri-Sun. However, I’ve heard that cafe3 will be opened M-Sun next year? Not sure…

I’ve tried both, but I have to tell you that they’re equally bad if you go at the wrong time. However, most of the time, Xroads tend to be better based on how many different stations they have. If Xroads menu sucks, I just go to Cafe3.

If you want the convenient of food/walking to class (south-side), my suggestion would be for Unit1 (newer too).

Oh, I’ll go for unit 1 mostly! Thanks a lot, also can you tell me if I can request a singe sex floor?
Or would it just be better to request for Stern?

In my opinion, it’s better to do a co-ed floor (it was strange at first sharing the bathroom with both sexes, but it’s all normal after the 1st day? Lol). But if you prefer a single sex floor, I believe they’ll accommodate you nicely. If $ is not an issue, go for Stern. From how I see it, 80% of the friends I know live in the units, so it’s kind of hard for you to hang out with them or study together if you live all the way on northside.

If you want to be safe just do:

Unit 1 - Double/triple Single Sex
Unit 1 - Double/triple (whichever you didn’t pick for 1st option) Single Sex
Unit 2/3 - Double/triple Single Sex
Stern - W/e room option they have
Anywhere (you need this for guarantee housing)

You can totally request a single sex floor. The social scene’s really not all that different. All male floors are just as social if not even more social. Female floors might be more quiet, but it’s not like you can’t socialize if you really want to.
