Housing Questions, Cost questions and the some

Hi, I am an international male applicant who has just been accepted to the Red McComb's School of Business for the Fall 2006 semester. I have several (ok, actually quite a few) questions and I hope current UT students or those who are living in Austin can help me out.thanks.

Housing.
I am looking for a suitable on campus dorm to stay in and could do with a few recommendations.

Questions.
1.What dorm should I stay in?
2.How much would it cost?

Preferences:
1.Single Room
2.Relatively spacious
3.Not TOO expensive
4.Relatively private

Transportation.
For those of you who are now in Austin, I hope that you all can give me suggestions for getting around the city.

Questions.
1.How good is the public transportation system? (buses and trains)
2.How wide is its coverage?
3.How much does it cost?
4.Is a bicycle a viable way of getting around?

Any help appreciated. THanks.

you can walk almost anywhere if youre staying on campus... the school dorms arent too bad, although the price will be significantly higher if you are looking for a single room. i will be living at towers next year, which is a private dorm, and has the best parties on campus. in order to get a dorm, as UT does not guarantee housing for all freshman, you should have applied for housing a couple of months ago, as the good dorms fill up fast. if you have not already, fill out the housing application IMMEDIATELY or you wont get housing

you probably won't get housing if you haven't applied by now - most people applied back in october. you should check out www.thecastilian.com , www.universitytowers.com , and www.dobiecenter.com , the 3 most popular off-campus co-ed private dorms. Dobie has a lot of international and minority students.

Do all on campus dorm have single occupancy rooms?

"you can walk almost anywhere if youre staying on campus"

actually I meant getting around the CITY of Austin not the university.

Thanks.

i dont really know about the bus system, ive got my car. i used to take it when i was a freshman to go shopping and stuff downtown, and i think it may be free for students and gets you pretty much anywhere you need to go. austin is a great city, and is made as convenient as possible to take advantage of

Public bus system is ok - not great - best on north-south routes. UT is close to downtown (walking busing biking). Some of the best public bus routes run straight through campus - you can definitely access shopping via the bus - some of the largest transfer stations are at the malls and there is an easy bus ride from campus to a grocery store with a small shopping center. UT also has a pretty good free shuttle system that goes to large portions of the city.

There is no train.

link to bus system: http://www.capmetro.org/

and the shuttle system (provided through the city bus system): http://www.capmetro.org/riding/schedules_ut.asp

Also, a bike is a good way to get around in the central part of town...

Thanks to everyone who replied.
