Michigan State really does not have anything on the details of their housing. I will be an incoming freshman next year so I am very curious. Are quad rooms available for Freshman and if so how much do they cost? Can you pick a quad room in the housing application and select 3 other roommates that you want to room with? Where is the ideal place for a freshman to live at? Which hall offers the largest rooms and best atmosphere? Room with someone you know or don't know or any roommate at all? How do the bathrooms work, are they community bathrooms or does every dorm get its own bathroom? Is their cable in the rooms?

Sorry for so many questions, but MSU doesn't do a very good job answering any of them and it's extremely frustrating.

The thing about quads is that they are only offered in East Campus, so if your major classes are mainly in that area it is ideal. Other than that rooms are mainly double rooms, either community or suite style. In the application they ask for your first, second, and third choices for dorms and then if you want a roommate you can include their PID on the form. However, the don’t always take your requests into account. I didn’t get my first, second, or third choice room.
If you want to find out about the different neighborhoods, you can go to liveon.msu.edu . They have the names of different dorms, type of room (suite style, community style, quad), as well as meal plans offered to students and pictures of your typical room in any given neighborhood (and campus apartments are included also). It should also include pricing on there as well. I don’t know as much about the quads since I live in West Circle (North) neighborhood, but people I know have said they’re more cramped than a double room.
