Okay so I am a freshman applying for housing and really want a double but my parents are making me get a triple. I have one roommate already and we are going to request a triple, without entering a third roommate in. Do you think they will stick us with a random third roommate or just give us a double?

Is it better to just request the third roommate because we'll for sure yet the triple?

Are the "triples" in group D, (the ones $1,000 cheaper than doubles) just doubles with people in them or are they actually larger rooms?

Where are the group D triples located? any on north, I think south quad has them

Is south quad a good place for freshman that aren't honors students and want to get to know people?

I can only answer number 5. South Quad is a great dorm, regardless of whether or not you’re in honors. I think I read only 35% of it is honors, and honors students aren’t a singular block of antisocial students. Honors students have many non-honors friends too. South Quad’s location (close to everything, especially the Union and the Big House) makes it ideal.

You’re not going to get south quad unless you’re in honors or are lucky enough to get an overflow quad. I live here right now and the only room types are doubles and overflow quads, but its all upperclassmen besides the honors freshmen and athletes. Triples are in oxford, east quad, and north campus I believe. But if you request a roommate you can expect to end up on north because roommate requests take higher priority than location, meaning you get pushed to the end of the location priority list.

So if I only put down one roommate but requested a triple (not a large triple) do you think they would put us in a triple (not sure if they even have these on north) with a random person, or would they put us in a double? Just by your opinion

mich16, it really depends on a variety of factors that we don’t really understand. I would recommend calling the housing office with your questions, as they will be able to answer them better than we can.

If you want to try to save money, you might be able to find something off-campus that are actually within a reasonable distance from class if you look hard enough. Otherwise, the housing lottery is mostly beyond your control. I agree that a triple in a double would suck though.

I am just gonna wing it and hope to God that I get onto Central. I recently applied to honors, so that may help (if I get in).

But in all honesty, I hear that living on North as a freshman isn’t the WORST. Since everyone is basically in it together, you form a kind of bond with everyone. So I wouldn’t be too upset if I had to live there… as long as I’m in Bursley, I’ll be happy. If I’m in Baits, I’ll probably be really ****ed lol
