Ok, we're in; now, what to do about housing? I have no idea how this works, I don't know anyone who has gone to Michigan in the last 5 years, I need help. I paid my deposit and look foward to seeing you guys next year in Ann Arbor.

So, I have my deposit in. I understand that they'll mail us in March about registering for housing. Where does it go from there? Can I request a specific dorm? What are the odds that I get one of the quads as a non-honors, non-athlete? Can we avoid North Campus by registering early? What are the flavors or reputations of some of the dorms? When do I find out where I was assigned and who my roomate is?

I'm considering joining the residential college before it's too late. It sounds awesome, I just don't know if it's for me.

I really appreciate any help. I do mean any, I have no idea what's going on.

Don't worry myccname, everyone is in your position. As far as I know you can't request a specific dorm. You may be able to list preferences, and applying early will get you a better chance at these, but yes it's very possible to get into "one of the quads" as a non-honors, non-athlete. I know many who did. If you do RC you're guaranteed East Quad so it's a non-issue. You'll find out your assignment in like...june maybe? You'll just be told the type of room and the building. You won't know your roommate until the first week in august. Flavors of dorms:
South quad: Kind of a modern feel to it, very easy to navigate, pretty darn big, and an awesome study area on the 9th floor.
West quad: Older style, very hard to navigate, but more visually appealing on the outside than south quad. Kinda dark inside though. Has an older feel.

Those are the ones I'm in the most and I don't know the others well enough to give a great idea.

There's almost no chance for non-Honors, non-athlete to get into West or South as a freshman. East is also difficult for non-RC. The only other Central Campus dorms are all-female halls. Except for Honors and RC, about half of freshmen live on the Hill and half live on North Campus.

Is it possible to request 3 people for a suite at Baits? Two people per room with a bathroom in between? I know there are three spaces for roommate requests. If all four of us put the same preferences and ID's, can it work out?

ok, i'm pretty familiar with the Hill. I don't see the diff between the quads and the Hill. If u like a social atmosphere, then Squad is the place for you. Markley is also the party dorm on the Hill. Alice Lloyd looks awful from the outside, but very modern inside, great study lounges. Mojo is a no-option next year. Couzens is kinda weird, but looks very modern from the inside and has wide hall-ways. Not very social as most rooms are singles. Stockwell has all the hot girls. too bad guys can't live there.

north campus is generally bad unless u like trees and hills and random deer walking around.

Let me correct...it is IMPOSSIBLE for non-RC, non-MRC, non-WISE students to get into East Quad. You have to be in a Michigan Learning Community to live in East Quad for the next few years until Mojo is back online.
