For current/prospective students,

I have yet to apply for housing. Does each dorm room have its own "personality" ? I want a dorm room in the center of campus and preferably the one that is the most quiet..

when you apply, you will find out that you are not able to request to be in a certain dorm. the survey that they take only asks for your preferences for what kind of dorm (coed by floor, single sex, etc).

Ditto, the survey is the best info you can provide regarding preferences. I doubt proximity/location can be requested. Since you did not apply by the first deadline, your choice of dorm may be limited but there is not much any of us can do in order to select a specific type of dorm other than the general survey questionnaire.

omg i haven't done the housing form yet... am i gonna get put in a really crappy one? is it also too late to request a roommate?

thanks..

yes, I found this out last night when I actually applied

If you want a single, you can be guaranteed that you will be given Turman West, which is on the outskirts of campus and is quiet but also antisocial. In conclusion, you don't want a single.

For those of you who want the scoop on dorms, here it is:

Far Away from campus: Complex (Thomas, Smith, Hopkins), Turman (East (doubles), North (Doubles), West (Singles)

On campus (Good location): Alabama (the best, but often for scholars/athletes), Mcteiyre (second best), Trimble, Longstreet (party dorm), Dobbs (great location, small rooms)

Let me know if you have any specific questions :).
