Housing

On one of these posts, it was said that "the earlier you submit your application, the sooner you can apply for dormitory housing." I will be applying this summer, but cannot send in everthing until September. My High School advises that they can't send in an official transcript until September. That's not too late, is it?

Once I send in my application, exactly how do I apply for housing? Do I cocat the school, or do they send me something?

Once you submit your application the school, about 3 weeks later you get a notice from UF to apply for Housing. When you do that, you apply for the Dorms you want, etc and when you're done you get a Priority Date. When the Housing Office starts to place students into dorms, they look at what you want from your choices and look at your Priority Date. If you have an earlier Priority Date, you have a higher chance of getting your first preference. That's why it is important to apply ASAP especially now that UF is only doing a one deadline admissions.

Actually this was suppose to be posted in the dorm thread you started.

UF Gators covered it. And, no, September is definately NOT too late, that's way before most people have applied. If you submit your application in September, you'll be able to apply for housing in October, and you'll almost definately get your first choice location.

Is the dorm/room type preference list on the housing application? I thought that I remembered the housing application being fairly generic and then the HOUSING CONTRACT, which is mailed to accepted students in the spring, had the housing preferences on it.

Daughter, who submitted her UF application on July 6, got an email from UF this morning that read:

Congratulations on submitting your application to the University of
Florida! Now that you’ve made your first step toward becoming part
of the Gator Nation, you are eligible to make your first step toward
joining other Gators in living on UF’s campus.

If you are considering living on the UF campus when you start your
first semester, you should apply for housing AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The
date you submit your application becomes your Housing Application
Date, which establishes your "place in line" for getting your hall and
room preferences, or even getting housing at all. Do not wait to hear
about your admission status to apply for housing; you can apply right
now! It is important to note that this application is not a contract or
guarantee for on-campus housing; it simply expresses your interest and
establishes incoming students’ order in acquiring campus housing and
receiving their housing preferences. Upon completion, your housing
application will be valid from Summer B 2008 through Summer A 2009.

To complete your application for campus housing, complete the following steps:

When applying for housing you will need a credit card to pay the $25.00
non-refundable application fee. This is a processing fee and will not
be refunded for any reason, even if you are not admitted to UF in the
future. If you are unable to apply online, please contact the Housing
Office for assistance.

If you ever have a question about where you are in the process of securing
campus housing you can view your Checklist on our Housing Portal. Please

We wish you the best with your application to the University of Florida!

She just did this, it took about 3 minutes and my credit card. There were no housing preference questions on the form....just one about if she had florida prepay for the dorm and one asking if she was seeking medical/physical accomodations in housing.
