Housing

I have been accepted to Vanderbilt (ED), and I haven't received my VUnetID and therefore can't look at the housing application thing yet. How do the requests work? I want to be in a double room AND I have a roommate already. Is that possible?

if you like doubling up, heck yea.

Definitely. If you like to party, live in Branscomb. If you like more study time, the doubles in vandy/barnard are nice and newer.

My potential roommate and I both applied ED. Do we get preference over those who applied RD? And if we do, is Branscomb the one that they fill up first for doubles or is it the other one?

im not sure if you get to pick, but most of the doubles are in branscomb anyway. Its the most social out of the three.

I know I can't pick, but since I'm ED, do you think I'll have a better shot at getting into it?

I personally think Vandy/Barnard is much nicer than Branscomb, but if you are into the sorority scene, then Branscomb is probably more suitable for you. Vandy/Barnard is alot more quiet and more for the academically focused people who don't care as much about the greek scene. The reason I like Vandy/Barnard is because it is closer to Wilson Hall, Furman Hall, and those buildings near the Kissam Quad. If you're premed the classes are usually in Stevenson so the distance is somewhat equal. Vandy/Barnard is also a lot newer. Branscomb is older and often quite dirty because of the parties.

What is your opinion on the singles for Freshman?

Vandy/Barnard has singles. Try to get a single at Vandy/Barnard at the end of the halls because they are larger. I was the first in my family to go to college in the US so I didn't know much. I was accepted early decision and actually had first priority for housing. Unfortunately back then I didn't know Kissam Quad was "the ghetto," but I got an end room. I personally prefer singles because you can have your peace once you close the door. If you like singles, I definitely say put down Vandy/Barnard single end room. Vandy/Barnard also has its own munchi mart, music practice rooms, huge lounge, etc.

Freshman housing assignments are random. ED matriculants don't get an advantage over RD matriculants since they don't even begin the assignment process until June 23. You have a good chance of getting your preference, but for some reason, if you have a roommate preference that makes it harder for them to get you to together. It's weird as it would seem that it should be the other way around.

That's what I figured, but on my early acceptance letter, they specifically said that housing will be mailed on April 1st and preferences will be determined by the date that they recieved the matriculation fee. Mine was paid in December. Wouldn't you assume that early decision would get preference over regular from that statement?

Nah, its something like if you hand your money in late

The thing you got (or will get soon) is a PIN number which you will use to activate your VUnetID, you're all-purpose second ID at Vanderbilt. You'll use you VUnetID to activate your email account and "apply" for housing. Freshman housing is essentially automatic, you're required to live oncampus unless you're living with family in Davidson County. The only thing they give you preference for single or double, and some roomate preferences if you choose double. Like college2332 said, the matriculation cutoff date is for people who send their money in late. I don't know why they dont give ED people preference; I suspect it's because you really don't have much of choice. You get to choice between a double in Branscomb or Vandy-Barnard, or a single in Kissam or Vandy-Barnard. Not really any sense of complicating things by having different tiers and all...

When Branscomb is described as party hardy, what is meant? for example, do the inhabitants party on the typical thurs, fri, sat schedule or for the whole week?
