Housing at Vandy

For current/prospective students, what are the best dorms at vanderbilt for incoming freshman?

Not Kissam quad.

I've heard Vanderbilt and Barnard are good. I don't know about Branscomb quad. It really doesn't matter what hall you prefer since you're sorted according to room preference (single/double). Kissam is all singles, but there are some singles in Vandy/Barnard. Chances are if you choose a single, you'll end up in Kissam.

But seriously, the halls are all just fine. I stayed in one of Kissam's halls, and it was still leagues beyond any other college housing I've ever been in.

it was actually built for temporary housing back in teh days. They just kept it and didn't demolish it.

Branscomb is the best dorm for freshmen. it has the great location and some of them have half bath.

but we don't get to choose it. if we apply for dbl, we might end up either going to vandy/Barnard or Branscomb.

Kissam isn't as bad as everyone seems to believe. Yes, it's not a five-star hotel, but what dorm is? It definitely isn't the worst dorm I've ever seen or stayed in.

Remember that your dorm/dorm location is not what makes your college experience - it's what you make of it.

Haha, yeah, ecnerwalc3321 is right about Kissam Quad. One of my engineering professors actually told me that Kissam Quad was built in the 50's to accomodate students who would be attending vandy under the provisions of the GI Bill. They had planned to demolish it, but they never did. They have rennovated it alot since then though. Back in the day they didnt have carpet on the floors and they didn't have dropped ceilings. Kissam Quad has a bad reputation on CC. When I was an incoming freshman I read about bow crappy Kissam was on CC, but when I actually ended up living there my freshman year it wasn't bad at all. I mean yeah, the showers are freaking small as hell...but who really cares...its not like you'll live in the showers. Oh, and the freshman housing assignment process is really just a crapshoot. Some people that I know applied for a double and got put in a Kissam single anyways. So you can't really be sure anyways.
