I know as a freshmen there are many opinions to this question about newton and upper? any one have strong opinions on either side? I know people say newton is really nice if you look past the distance. I also may want to do a quad/triple which would be on upper…
opinions! thanks.

I lived on Newton my freshman year and enjoyed it. The food is superior and the wait for the bus isn’t too bad anymore now that BC implemented a gps system on its buses. There’s plenty of open space on Newton and plus you’ll recognize nearly everyone on campus. Only downside is getting mashed onto the buses, other than that it’s really nice. Oh, and apparently Newton has a milkshake machine, all the more reason to live there as opposed to Upper.

Look over the forums. This question has been exhausted to death.

both have their upsides and downsides. but people usually end up loving wherever they are put. you don’t get a choice though, you realize that right?

You have no choice in where you live freshman year. People usually like where they end up living though.

I lived on Newton, and honestly loved it. There is a great sense of community on Newton that comes from running into people over and over on the bus, at the bus stops, and in the cafeteria. Our dining hall on Newton is small, but it gives a quaint feel, and after a few months of living there, it becomes impossible to walk inside without seeing at least one person you know. For me, this was a really nice way to adjust to life at a fairly big school. The majority of my best friends from college lived on Newton with me, and 8 of the 9 of us living together next year all lived on Newton.

The only downside to Newton is having to take the bus. The first few weeks of school it serves as a nice place to meet people. After awhile, you get used to it.

You can request Newton, but you can’t request Upper. It’s no longer on the housing form, but if you email ResLife asking for Newton, I think they typically honor your request (That’s what my roommate did.)

This is just my opinion, but living on Newton freshman year was definitely an experience that added to the wonderful first year I had.
No matter where you live, you will get out of your freshman year only what you put into it.

Hope that helped! :)
