Housing

Hi!
Ok, So I was looking at housing, and I think we get to put down 3 choices right?
I was thinking 3rd North, 12th Street and hayden.

Anybody know about these? Or any other dorms?

Bryan

My top choice is University Hall. Not sure about second or third choice, but I still gotta keep looking into it.

I was thinking University Hall too. I'll probably list 12th as another option. Does anyone know how far these dorms are from Stern? And does anyone have any other suggestions for dorms? I'd prefer apartment style living, preferably with a decent source of food close by. =)

U hall isn't a freshman dorm anymore because of 12th street opening in 09. The only apartment style dorm for freshman is 3rd North.

12 street is the new dorm that will open in 2009. It is traditional style.

ooh ooh, what do you guys know about 12 street, then??? I'm leaning towards traditional for my first choice, then UHall as my second... at first Hayden was my first, but if 12street is going to be better, then maybe I should go with that.
Yeah, it'll be newer, but has anyone heard if it's going to be all cinder-blocky like Weinstein, or more homey? ... also the size of the rooms... any info anyone????

i read somewhere that 12 street is scheduled to open during spring 2009. is that true?
if it is will uhall be freshman for fall 2009? gosh i was looking at uhall as my 1st pick >.<

in the packet we got, uhall isn't listed under freshmen dorms apparently... on the website there's no mention of 12th street, and uhall is still listed as a freshmen dorm, but I guess they just don't update it that often

And for those asking about distance from Stern, the majority of your classes will be in Silver, because you'll have to fulfill the MAP requirements. The only class you'd take first semester in Stern would probably be Micro, but the Stern building's maybe a block away from Silver, so it won't vary that much at all.

Rubin........

does anyone know if we're allowed to request our suitmates as well?

Yes, we are, Hannah.

thank goodness, hahaha

I've think I've decided on 12th Street, Third Avenue North, and Goddard as my dorms of choice (listed by preference). Anything bad (or good) I should know about Third North or Goddard?

Goddard is right next to Starbucks! and closest to CAS and Stern.

Third North is farthest away from "campus" of the freshmen dorms, so if you're looking to stay in bed as long as possible, Third Av is not the way to go. That being said, it has a very nice basement computer lab with mac lab, pc lab and unlimited printing. Goddard is an extremely small community, so if you're looking for social and meeting the most people you can, Goddard is not the way to go. Goddard's closest to Silver and Stern by like 30 seconds to Weinstein and Hayden, so it's not really that advantageous. And the Starbucks next to it is fake, apparently. It doesn't at all taste like what real Starbucks does, everyone seems to say.

How about Rubin? Is that available for Freshies?

Yes, I don't know how it is though, I've never been there. Location's kind of awkward, not really near anything. I've heard the dining hall's not that good, either. I've heard a lot of mixed feelings from people in Rubin. The people who enjoy it absolutely love it, the ones who don't absolutely hate it.

Some interesting statements on this board..

Rubin's location is awkward??? A lower Fifth Avenue address is awkward? Please, there is no way that you are a New Yorker!!! Most NYer's would die for that location and no one will be able to afford that address as new college grads, believe me!

As for the Starbuck's in Goddard...that is a 100% legitimate corporate owned open-to-the public with street access Starbucks. What are you talking about???

My friend really loved Goddard but she said Hayden was kind of nasty. I really like Weinstein at the moment because of all the food options it has.
