Housing

I was wondering what everyone's housing preferences was? Does anyone have any information on the specific dorms?

My daughter lived in McLaughlin her freshman year. The rooms were decent sized with excellent storage (actually this is the case for all the dorms I’ve seen there). McLaughlin is right next to the Benson Center which is where the student center is and the dining hall. It is VERY convenient. Swig is large…and noisy…and my daughter said it was not her preference. It’s the only large dorm on the campus.

Yeah I have heard that Swig is the largest and tends to be the noisiest. I was looking at the housing website and they had pictures of all the halls and everything. Would you happen to know, like for example, McLaughlin Hall (Unity RLC), what the Unity RLC is. It seems like all the halls have them, just different names.

* Bellarmine Hall (Communitas RLC)

 • Campisi Hall (Communitas RLC)
 • Casa Italiana (daVinci RLC)
 • Dunne Hall (Modern Perspectives RLC)
 • Graham Complex (Alpha RLC)
 • McLaughlin Hall (Unity RLC)
 • Nobili Hall
 • Sanfilippo Hall (Xavier RLC)
 • Sobrato Hall (Loyola RLC)
 • St. Clare Hall
 • Swig Hall (CyPhi RLC)
 • Walsh Hall (Unity RLC)

All of the RLC’s have a community service component to them. My daughter lived in a different one her second year…both were fine. She chose her housing on the basis of location.

thanks @thumper1

are space heaters allowed in the dorms?

space heaters? Isn’t it hot out in Cali? I heard even during Winter and Spring doesn’t drop below 40ish. That is spring time weather here in the Northeast.

I do not believe space heaters are allowed in the dorms…they aren’t allowed in MOST college dorms. They are a fire hazard. BUT the dorms at Santa Clara are cozy and warm. My daughter says she would NEVER have had the need for a space heater.

Just curious…why do you think you need a space heater?

i get cold easily, but i wasn’t thinking about the area when i asked the question
thx for answering the question
