Hey guys, it's been a long time since I've last posted. If you guys don't know, I've switched my major to Finance. And I have been thinking about either double majoring in Finance and Econ, or adding an Accounting minor.

My school's curriculum doesn't start teaching the courses specifically for a student's major until the first semester of their junior year. I'll be heading into my first semester of my junior year this fall.

How can I get ahead. Are there any free online classes you guys can recommend?
I occasionally read the forum on wallstreetoasis, investopedia.com is bookmarked, I spend a TON of time reading through the forums on myfico.com, anything else I can do to prepare myself?

I’m an incoming freshman who’s also trying to “get ahead” in terms of finance knowledge. The best advice I’ve received is to read a good textbook with a detailed, comprehensive, and comprehensible introduction to finance. I’d recommend Investments 9th edition by Bodie, Kane, and Marcus which has excellent chapters on financial instruments, exchanges, and portfolio theory. I’ve reading it right now and am really enjoying its approach to the subject matter.

Also, I wouldn’t suggest taking any online classes. I spent a lot of time searching for online finance courses and couldn’t find any that were useful. An internship in finance would be extremely useful, but its probably too late to find one.

Check your curriculum. Econ and accounting often have significant overlap with finance. You may be able to minor or double major with few additional classes. I remember with my own finance degree, the required accounting classes alone left me just shy of an accounting minor. Had I wanted one, it would have been easy.
