How accepting are Dartmouth students?

Okay :)

So Dartmouth is my first choice by a long shot but I still have some reservations. I would really appreciate it if anyone ccould give me some insight into how accpting the students at Dartmouth are (I've heard everything from super liberal earth lovers to conservative elitists...but i'm not sure i agree with the last one). I am an East African student from Atlanta who is also a practicing muslim (full headscarf and all) and I am used to the very diverse, open-minded atmosphere of my city. I'm pretty quiet at first but I am not closed-minded or oober-religious. Most of my friends are from different countries, speak at least one other language, and practice varying religions. I am always up for meeting new people! I am not planning to be involved in the frat-scene... but believe me I am very creative and I know I can find alternative activities for me to do... late night hikes, movie nights, game nights, ice cream socials, sleep, read. How easy do you think it will be for me to fit in at Dartmouth and how accepting are the kids at the school at accepting people of different faiths, cultures, and beliefs?

I am also attending Dimensions and I'm pretty sure that my worries will be laid to rest once I get there.. or dearly hope so.

so please, any advice or insight u can afford me would be greatly appreciate it :)

I’d say wait for Dimensions and see how you like it.

This year’s accepted class is the most diverse ever - with close to 50% of students non white. Make an effort to also connect with the Muslim Student Association: [Al-Nur - The Muslim Student Association (MSA) at Dartmouth College](http://www.dartmouth.edu/~alnur/) and the Afro-American organizations http://www.dartmouth.edu/~aam/</a> . I am sure they will host an event at Dimensions.

Home – Note that the BADA president, is from Atlanta.

I hope you find, as I have, that Dartmouth is a very accepting place and there is room for everyone. One of outgoing President Wright’s great accomplishments, in my opinion, was to make Dartmouth a home to all. He has honored the affiliated alumni groups and tried hard to make Dartmouth welcoming. I am confident that the new President will carry on this tradition. I can help you with some connections for Dimensions if you like. Good luck and please email me if you need any help making connections.

moveinmom, thanks for the help. you’re advice was really helpful. I think it may be a matter of just putting myself out there and making friends :)
