How easily accessible is Downtown and Midtown Atlanta from the Emory campus? I love the city of Atlanta - the attractions, restaurants, bars, etc. - and I think that I would get tired of spending every weekend at frat parties. From what I’ve read, the MARTA seems to be slow and the Emory shuttles inconsistent. As a student without a car, I would probably have to rely on other people with cars to drive me places, which I don’t really want to do. Can you describe in further detail how Emory students get to Downtown/Midtown, how often they go into ATL, what they do there, etc.?
Uber.
Downtown Atlanta is dead at night. I don’t know why you want to go.
Buckhead, Midtown, Decatur, Virginia Highlands, Edgewood, Cabbagetown.
The answer is always Uber.
^ sounds about right
edit: also we have a enterprise-car share system (if you have your license) there is a $5/hr car service. Pretty convenient if you need to do something you can reserve it and use it.
Can’t using Uber all the time get expensive, though? Also, can you tell me more about the enterprise car-share system (I do have my license)?
Actually Uber isn’t that bad for the most part. Its about $10-15 to get you to most places in Atlanta and if you have a couple of friends splitting the tab the cost isn’t too bad. As a freshman I only go out on the weekends or sometimes I just hit up frat row so I don’t even leave campus.
So the car share program is pretty simple, beginning of the year you sign up for enterprise carshare (there will be representative’s from Enterprise to help you during orientation week) and it takes around a two weeks for your information to be processed. After that, you get a membership card (free) and then when you want to rent a car, you go online and reserve it. The Enterprise cars are located at a certain locations on campus. After you book your reservation, go use it. Its pretty simple.
If you have any more questions search up enterprise carshare. Hope it helped!
I don’t go to Emory but I live just OTP and my dad works in Midtown.
Atlanta (especially around Emory) is not a very walkable city but it’s getting better. Public transportation is a nightmare… but it’s pretty bike-friendly. A bike or a scooter (think Vespa, not Razor!) can get you around town during the day, but Uber is great at night. I agree with @thecoolboy1234 in that Uber can be really affordable if you split it with friends.
The answer is above.
My son who’s a sophomore at Emory Ubers all over Atlanta, to go out to dinner, to go to the movies, etc. Sharing Ubers with other kids is not that expensive at all.
Also, FWIW, all the kids have the Venmo app, which allows them to share expenses easily.
